David Duane Phelps

David Duane Phelps, 58, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away on September 27, 2022 at his residence. He was born May 31, 1964 in Mount Vernon, Illinois to the late Larry and Alice (Elliston) Phelps. David married Donna (Smith) Phelps in 2007.
In addition to his wife, David is survived by his children, Eric Phelps, Shandi (Matt) Morales, and Mandi Morales, all of Bluford, Illinois; step children, Benjamin (special friend, Carrie Bullington) Smith of Mount Vernon, Illinois, Amanda (Jeremy) Porter of Mount Vernon, Illinois, Justin (Tiffany) Smith of Mount Vernon, Illinois; grandchildren, Vincent, Logan, and David Morales, Thorin Palmer, Alaysha Porter, Ashton Smith, Jalynn Wheeler, Summer Smith; step mother, Donna Garrison; brothers, Donald (Sheila) Phelps of Opdyke, Illinois, Richard Phelps of Mount Vernon, Illinois, Anthony Phelps of Carbondale, Illinois; sisters, Crystal (Stefan) Walter of Michigan, Tiffany (Scott) Reidelberger of Benton, Illinois; and several nieces and nephews.
David loved fishing and had a giant contagious personality. He was the life of the party and absolutely loved his grandchildren. He owned and operated his own lawn service with his son, Eric for many years. He worked at Continental Tire for Defenders Industrial Janitorial for thirty-five years. David took great pride in his work and was devoted to his family.
A Visitation will be held Monday, October 3, 2022 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois. A Funeral Service will begin at 7:00 pm with Reverend Rodney Gass officiating.
