PHILBIN, David Duane, Jr., age 53, of Blanchester, peacefully passed away Thursday, January 4, 2023, at his residence surrounded by his family.
David graduated from Springboro High School and Warren County Career Center, class of '89. He worked for over 30 years in the construction business for Geraci & Co. in Maineville, retiring in October 2023. He was a member of the Blanchester Eagles and a Past Master of the Clarksville Masonic Lodge #323.
Simple, quiet, and hardworking, David was known for finding joy in the small things in life and never complained about anything along the way. He enjoyed fishing from farmer's ponds and Caesar Creek Lake. He enjoyed quiet places where he could be in the great outdoors and relax. He loved watching car shows, but his true passion was restoring cars. His pride and joy was his '68 Chevelle. He always had country music playing, and you could hear him singing along many times. He was friendly with everyone who he met. He never liked people being mad at him, so he had a very forgiving personality. He enjoyed life and loved to talk to older people about their lives. Swapping stories and talking were two of his most cherished traits. Some of his favorite memories came from spending time with his friends, going on camping trips, and enjoying good laughs with his friends and family.
He was famous for his grilling. He built a grill and cooked almost everything on it. He had a very close-knit family and enjoyed all the family get-togethers, especially all the major holidays. He was always happy to see everyone. Every Father's Day, he and his kids would go fishing and he always wanted his truck cleaned. During Christmas, they would drive around looking at all the lights and decorations at people's houses. He was a dog lover all of his life. Molly was an English Mastiiff and Harley was a Lab mixed with Weimaraner. David was known for his dad jokes, sense of humor, a welcoming greeting of a big grin and him saying "what's up?", his phone calls to his loved ones, and many favorite sayings. Among many things, he will be remembered for how proud he was of his kids and the love he had for his family.
He was preceded in death by his father, David Duane Philbin Sr., and grandparents, Hubert (Maurine) Philbin and Bessie (David) Rayburn. He is survived by his son, Dillon (Julia) Philbin; two daughters, Ashley (Christopher) Hammond and Haley (Adam) Spohr; five grandchildren, Amber Philbin, Deegan Philbin, Colter Philbin, Ayla Hammond, and Cora Hammond; his mother, Loretta Philbin; two sisters, Carrie (Terry) Beam and Kellie (Greg) Powell; one nephew, Hayden Powell; three nieces, Bethany (Greg) Hornberger, Lyndsey (Greg) Hamlin, and Sara Beam; three great-nephews, Gunner, Jack, and Ronnie; special friend, Rae Baker; and his beloved dog, Harley.
Funeral services will be held at 1 PM Thursday, January 11, at Stubbs-Conner Funeral Home in Waynesville. Burial will be in Miami Cemetery, Corwin. Chuck Wolfinbarger will be officiating. The family will receive friends from 11 AM - 1 PM Thursday at the funeral home. If desired, contributions may be made to the Warren County Humane Society. Condolences at www.stubbsconner.com.
