David Pirro Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Carmon Funeral Home & Family Center on Nov. 30, 2024.
David Anthony Pirro, 73, of Simsbury, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, at UConn Medical Center, with his three boys by his side and surrounded by close family. Born in Hartford on March 14, 1951, son of the late Dominick A. and Anna Maria (Obrizzo) Pirro, he was raised in Avon and was a graduate of Avon High School, Class of 1969.
As a young man, David caddied at the Avon Country Club and developed a love of golf which continued for the rest of his life. During high school, David became fascinated with cars. He enjoyed working on his own cars and decided to make autobody and mechanic work his profession. Shortly after graduating from high school, David took a position with Thomas Cadillac in Hartford, where he trained as an autobody technician and met his lifelong friend Dale Hall. He worked at Thomas Cadillac for 15 years, and then continued his career in the autobody department at Hoffman Auto Group in Simsbury until his retirement 32 years later in December 2015.
In his spare time, David enjoyed working on cars for his friends and private clients at his home. He restored many of his own classic cars over the years. On nice days, David could be found in his current hot rod, a 1965 Chevelle, and often attending Cruise Nights. He enjoyed deep-sea fishing with his childhood friend Bobby Crimm and regular dinners with Bobby and his wife Denise. David was an avid supporter of Dale Hall's drag racing endeavors at the drag strip, and relished every dinner party with Dale and his wife Justine. David loved spending time with his three sons and taught them his passion for gardening, landscaping, golfing, and of course cars.
Proud of his Italian heritage, David loved to cook for his family and friends and was a member of Prince Thomas of Savoy in Avon. He enjoyed sharing his harvest from his garden with everyone and including his fresh vegetables in meals that he prepared. David made every meal special and included everything from appetizers to desserts. He loved sharing funny stories from his life, joking around, and make other people laugh. He took tremendous pride in his home, especially the landscaping, flower and vegetable gardens that he worked so hard on every spring, summer, and fall.
He leaves three sons, Brian D. Pirro of East Hartland, Jeffrey W. Pirro and his two children, Dominick and Lydia Pirro, all of Granby, and Jonathan D. Pirro and his wife Erin of West Granby; two brothers, Stephen A. Pirro of Sun City, AZ and Michael A. Pirro and his wife Susan of Simsbury; three nieces and a nephew, Karen Kirklin and her husband Rob of West Hartford, Mark Pirro of Colchester, Kim Robinson and her husband Ben of Wethersfield, and Jennifer Pirro of Canton.
The family would like to thank the medical staff at UConn Medical Center, in particular the ICU Team, for their care and compassion.
His family will receive friends on Friday, December 6, 5-8 p.m., at the Carmon Funeral Home and Family Center, 301 Country Club Rd., Avon. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 7, 10 a.m., at the Carmon Funeral Home and Family Center. Burial will follow in St. Ann Cemetery, Avon.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
