David W. Powell, 66, of Indianapolis, IN, went home with Jesus on January 17, 2024, with his loving wife at his side.
Born on July 7, 1957, in Indianapolis, Indiana. David leaves behind his wife and best friend of 39 years, Imogene Powell, and their children: Priscilla and Craig Bush (daughter and son-in-law), Kelly and John Duffner (daughter and son-in-law), Tonya and John Swafford (daughter and son-in-law), and his son, Michael Powell. He was also the best papaw to his 8 grandchildren: Austin and Alisha Bush, Peyton, Kameron, and Rosalyn Duffner, and Luke David, Natalie, and Amanda Swafford.
David was a "Jack-of-all-trades" guy. The majority of his work life was spent doing hard maintenance work at Emerson (formally known as Mallory.) He then became a supervisor at Horner Electric before retiring at age 62.
David loved to fish and could outfish anyone. He also loved to mushroom and squirrel hunt, and spending time with his family. He told the best stories and could make anyone laugh. He enjoyed playing basketball and had a mean hook shot. He and Imogene loved to travel and experience new scenery. He loved doing puzzles and drinking his coffee. He had a passion to fix things that were broken. He loved to tinker. He deeply loved the Lord and attended church faithfully at Shelby Street Pentecostal Lighthouse. He had the same loving church family for 35 years.
David will be so very missed by those who knew and loved him. He was a quiet and strong, but a gentle giant.
For the last 9 months, he had been very sick, but he fought to the end for his family. He may have lost his battle of cancer here on earth, but he won his eternal rewards with Jesus.
A visitation will be held at Shelby Street Pentecostal Lighthouse on Friday, January 26th from 5-8pm. The funeral will be held at the church on Saturday, January 27th, at 12pm with visitation starting at 10am until the funeral hour. Gravesite burial to follow at Mt. Pleasant Greenwood Cemetery.
