David Read Obituary

DuBOIS - David A. Read, 73, passed away on Friday, Aug. 22, 2025, at Christ the King Manor in DuBois.

He was born on Dec. 22, 1951, in Clearfield; son of the late Levis Read Jr. and Doris (Lingle) Read.

In 2012, Mr. Read retired from his 34-year tenure at Clearfield Area High School, where he taught sophomore English and oversaw the school's AV curriculum and lab. He was an active member of the Clearfield Education Association, where he proudly held the offices of president and grievance chair, and a lifetime member of the National Education Association, Pennsylvania State Education Association, and the Mountain Ridges PSEA-Retired. He was also a former member of the Clearfield Presbyterian Church, where he served as a deacon.

Mr. Read was a longtime participant in the Boy Scouts of America: beginning as a Cub Scout and climbing the ranks throughout his high school years before later rediscovering scouting with his sons. He was an active assistant leader in Boy Scout Troop 2 of the Clearfield Presbyterian Church and served as the chapter's Treasurer until 2006. There, he helped supervise numerous outings, including diving expeditions at Sea Base in Islamorada, Fla. and camping trips at Camp Mountain Run in Penfield.

His favorite pastimes included riding his motorcycle, watching TV crime dramas, and indulging in his Star Trek and STAR WARS fandoms. He had eclectic musical taste, from the Beach Boys to Phil Collins to Ed Sheeran, and was fascinated with the history of the American Civil War. In retirement, Mr. Read enjoyed target-shooting at the rifle range with his friend, attending lunches with fellow retired teaching colleagues, working on small household projects, and spending time on the computer. However, his greatest joy came from being with family, especially his grandchildren: during FaceTime calls or reading stories to them when they would visit.

Mr. Read is survived by his wife of 46 years, Melody L. Read; two sons, Sean Read and wife Jessica of Arlington, Va., and Trevor Read and his partner Emma of Pittsburgh; and two grandchildren, Aaron and Alina Read. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Gerald Read.

A funeral service will be held at the Beardsley Funeral Home and Crematory, Clearfield on Thursday, Aug. 28, 2025 at 2 p.m.

Friends will be received at the funeral home on Thursday from 12-2 p.m.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers and gifts, contributions be made to the Family House of Pittsburgh, 5308 Liberty Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15224.
