David Franklin Reid, age 77, passed away on February 1, 2025, in
Greensboro, NC. He was born on March 1, 1947, in Lexington, NC, to the late Walter Reid and Rachel (Yarbrough) Reid. He was a loving husband, stepdad, grandfather, and great-grandfather. David was the kind of Southern gentleman whose warmth and humor brightened every room. He started his journey in life working with his father painting houses, where he stumbled upon old drafting tools that ignited his lifelong passion for architecture and design. After graduating from Lexington Senior High School, he pursued an undergraduate degree in Industrial Arts at Appalachian State University and later earned his master's degree in Education from NC State.
His teaching career kicked off at Parkland High School in Winston-Salem, where he inspired countless students in Industrial Arts and Drafting. His passion for education and leadership eventually led him to North Carolina A&T State University, where he earned a second master's degree in Education Administration and advanced to the role of Assistant Principal at the Career Center before retiring. David's loyalty to his alma maters was infectious, instilling a sense of pride in his family – so much so that all 3 of his grandchildren ended up graduating from NC State as well! His passion for NC State football brought everyone together for fun tailgating and exciting game days. He and his beloved wife, Ann, who he was happily married to for 40 years, loved traveling in their RV, making countless memories along the way. Outside of football, David enjoyed time on the golf course, exploring new places, and camping with family. They created endless happy moments at their retreat on Badin Lake filled with laughter and love. After Ann passed away in 2023, David found a new community to embrace at Heritage Greens Retirement Community in Greensboro, forming new friendships and enjoying engaging activities, especially with his dear companion, Kaye.
David is lovingly remembered by his stepchildren, Ben Miles (Lyn) and Julie Miles; his grandchildren, Luke Miles (Caroline), Chelsea Nuzum (Justin), and Rheagan Trevillian (Adam); and his great-granddaughters, Spencer, Emmie, Rowan, and Nora. He was reunited in spirit with his parents and his beloved wife, Ann Seifert Reid.
