David Reo Obituary

Reo, Sr., David Anthony
NORTH GREENBUSH - David A. Reo Sr., 65, passed away peacefully Monday, April 14th 2025, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Troy, he was the son of the late Robert Reo Sr. and Sue Mariano Reo, husband of Deborah Finelli Reo; and father of Gregory and David Jr. Dave resided most of his life in North Greenbush and attended Catholic Central High School and Troy High School where he was a standout basketball player. He went on to attend The Junior College of Albany, where he also played basketball, and later graduated from The College of St. Rose.
He was the owner of Reo Financial Services where he ran a successful financial planning practice for 32 years. Upon his retirement, his oldest son took over the business.
Dave enjoyed life to the fullest. He would frequently visit Lake George and Saratoga with his family, and enjoyed boating and swimming. He loved to ski in the winter and enjoyed getting away to Pompano Beach, Fla., where he took many trips with his parents and later shared those experiences with his family. In the summer, he enjoyed trips to Cape Cod and Wildwood where he introduced his sons to his favorite restaurants, beaches, and ice cream shops. He had many skills outside of the business world. He led the construction of two beautiful custom homes where he and his family made many wonderful memories together. He was a coach and mentor to both his sons having coached David Jr. in basketball, and helped Greg get his start in finance.
Dave was a long-time member of the Colonie Senior Basketball League and was famous for his jump shot. He could often be seen behind the wheel of his BMW. You always knew when Dave had arrived because of his loud stereo with the bass bumping! He recently became a grandfather to his first grandson Frankie, who was able to bring a smile to his face even throughout his illness.
He is survived by his wife, Deborah; sons, Gregory (Leanna) and David Jr.; grandson, Francesco; siblings, Robert (Carna) Reo Jr., Mary (Roddy) Valente, Michael (Mary Ellen) Reo, and Steven (Shannon) Reo; brothers and sisters in law, Karen (JR) Casale, Barbara Finelli, John (Lynn) Finelli, Mark (Kelly)Finelli, and many nieces and nephews. Dave was predeceased by his parents, Robert and Sue Reo, and mother and father in-law, John and Mary Finelli.
Dave was a longtime communicant of St. Jude’s the Apostle Church in Wynantskill. The family asks that any donations be made to the church or St. Jude’s CYO basketball program.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, April 23, 2025 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Jude’s the Apostle Church, Brookside Avenue, Wynantskill.

Dear Reo Family I am sorry to hear about the passing of David.
I didnt know him well, we met at Troy High. I do remember he
was a good kid and I enjoyed talking to him when are paths crossed.
If right, we met while trying out for football. You can't mistake that smile.

I had the pleasure of getting to know Dave, and his kids, as members of the Greenbush Area YMCA where I am a director. He always lit up talking about hoop, tennis, and his sons. Those boys are great kids, and a true reflection of their father. He will be missed by our Y community and all his friends who have missed him on the basketball courts as he dealt with his illness.

I meet Dave 55 years ago at the St. Jude's basketball courts. We played together through high school, in an over 30 league at Gardner Dickinson and finally in the Colonie Senior Basketball League. I will confirm he had a great jump shot!

My sincere condolences to his entire family. May he rest in peace!
