David Douglas Ridge

After a life filled with hardwork, humor, and heart, David Douglas "Dave" Ridge died of complications of COPD and mental decline on November 13, 2025. He was supported and loved by his wife of 61 years Mary; his children Brian and Heather (Len); grandchildren Emily, Kate (Kevin), and Joe; his great grandchildren Joan and Maxine; and countless friends and relatives including his nephew Joe (Karen) who often visited him at the farm.
David was born on January 29, 1942 to Almer and Violet Ridge. He grew up in Columbia, MO where he was a proud 1960 graduate of Hickman High. He spent weekends working on the family farm north of town near Sturgeon. He earned a degree in education from Northeast Missouri State Teachers College in Kirksville where he met the love of his life, Mary. David worked as a flooring salesman and owned a distributing company in St. Louis. After his father's death, David and the family moved back to Columbia to run the farm. He then opened The Carpet Mart, which he operated for 37 years.
David was a man who made things happen: he designed and built a lovely home, raised a family, owned a business, worked a farm, and made amazing breakfasts. Dave will best be remembered for the stories he told, the jokes that he repeated, and the friendly way he interacted with everyone he encountered. A celebration of life will be scheduled at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please share laughter with someone you love.
