David Ritzert Obituary

David Paul Ritzert, a cherished soul whose life journey began on July 31, 1940, in Evansville, IN, completed his earthly journey on August 6, 2025, in the same beloved town that witnessed his first breath. David's life was a testament to the enduring power of love, hard work, and the simple joys that make a life well-lived.
For 58 beautiful years, David shared a love story with his late wife, Sarah Evelyn Ritzert, that was nothing short of inspirational. Together, they raised two remarkable daughters, Sherri Evelyn Ritzert and Angela Jean (Tim) Casson, who continue his legacy of kindness and strength. His grandchildren, Christopher David and Joshua Floyd Casson, were the apples of his eye, and he instilled in them the values of integrity and perseverance. David leaves behind a host of loving nieces and nephews.
David's early years were shaped by the loving guidance of his parents, Victor and Genevieve Ritzert, who preceded him in death. The family values they imparted were evident in every aspect of David's life. He was a man who knew the worth of a day's work, retiring as a dedicated machine operator at Inland Container.
His commitment to his faith was unwavering, as a member of Creekside Baptist Church, David's spiritual journey was filled with fellowship and service. An avid guitar player, his music was a source of joy and solace, not just for him but for all who had the pleasure of listening. David loved hunting and fishing and the great outdoors. His dog Jay was more than a pet; he was a loyal companion, a source of unconditional love and laughter. David's connection with Jay reminded us all of the pure and simple bond between a man and his dog. David will be remembered as a loving husband, wonderful father and grandfather and a faithful and loyal friend.
David's life will be celebrated on Saturday, August 9, 2025 at Sunset Funeral Home. Visitation will begin at 9am, service at 11am, with graveside to follow. To send flowers to the family or plant a tree in memory of David, please visit our floral store.
