When I was a kid, David was one of my heroes. He was 11 years older than me, and seemed larger than life. I remember going on many trips from our home in Wichita to Oklahoma to visit Wesley and Juanita and David and Richard at their home in Oklahoma City and visit my uncle John and Loretta at the farm in Crescent. I remember watching David play in a high school football game. I remember Juanita becoming my favorite aunt when she cooked me a whole pound of bacon after learning that I never knew before that that a person could ever be allowed to have more than two pieces of bacon.
Even after Wesley and Juanita had both passed on, David frequently spoke with my mother, who he called aunt Betty. He would come up sometimes to Wichita for various holidays. When my mother passed, he and Troy drove through a wicked ice storm in order to show up at her memorial service.
Last summer, on an extended motorcycle trip, I got to stay with David for a few days at his farm. I really enjoyed that time, and watching David ingeniously solve numerous problems, such as how to not get trampled while moving cattle. He was also very good at flirting with waitresses, who seem to enjoy that very much.
One day, when we had gone over to grow some breakfast in Guthrie, there was a biker at the next table with his family. I strike up a conversation, and David joined in. It turns out we were talking to a guy who had been a member of an outlaw, motorcycle gang for many years, but had converted, and become a follower of Jesus, and now held the illustrious position of Head Ogre in a Christian motorcycle club that " encouraged" outlaw, motorcycle gang members to "voluntarily" become followers of Jesus. David really seem to enjoy this conversation. Almost as much as he seem to enjoy the waitress, who was flirting with him!
After I left David, I was headed towards Amarillo when my bike broke down. David offered to come and get me. It turned out not to be necessary, but it was comforting to know that he was the kind of guy who would drive across the country to help. That´s the kind of man he was and he will be much missed.

My memories of cousin David mostly took place in the1950's. My mother Betty, brother Russell, and I would drive to Oklahoma City to visit my Uncle Wesley and Aunt Juanita and their two boys, David and Richard. David was a big high school football player and I, being 8 years younger, was his great admirer. He probably didn't even notice me. Aunt Juanita would fix enormous, delicious breakfasts and he'd go back for more at least 3 times. I've seen and talked to him occasionally over the years, but those are my most vivid memories.

Pops was a stubborn ole man, he was onery as he could be!! Especially when it came to driving Troy nuts!! When we ever had questions about things we could always go over to pops house and rack his brain for whatever it was we needed .. He always had an answer!! His cattle became his pets and kept him on his toes all the time!! He loved driving to McDonald's every day for breakfast just to give the lady in the drive thru hell!! Pops will be missed for sure by "the girls"!! Rest in peace pops.. Love Meagan and jennifer

One of the first memory's I have with David is I was helping him feed his cows and we seen a little back spot laying by the fence and went to investigate the situation it was a baby calf the last of twelve to be born he was back with a white face .David wanted to make sure the baby could get up so we pulled up there I got out of the truck walked up to the baby reached down and touched the little on and he raised his little head seen me jumped up and bolted we both laughed and said to hear her yep he can run then I told David I touched him first he's mine that day I named the little guy patch and since that day when I go out to feed and check on the cows patch sees me and bolts the other way he's to funny I guess he remembers that first day .

That his son Troy has so many of his witty sayings. When I got to help Troy feed his cattle when he was sick.....the mama cows were having babies, it was all good and fun until I got into a stinging nettle plant....Troy laughed and I was miserable...Lesson learned...
