WHITESBORO- Mr. David C. "Rusty" Fero went home to the Lord unexpectedly on Friday, December 2, 2022 at the age of 69.
David was born on December 29, 1952, to the late Charles and Shirley (Streed) Fero. He was raised and educated in Utica graduating from J.F.K. High School, and continued his education at H.C.C.C., concentrating his studies in accounting. David was previously married to Christine (Montana) Fero, and from that relationship came the blessing of their son, Chad. They were able to maintain a respectful rapport to this day.
David worked for many years for Frank's Transmission. He is remembered as a trusted employee with a great eye for detail working right along with Frank for 20 years. He continued his love for cars and saw Frank on his days off. His next stop in his long working career was at Turning Stone Resort and Casino where he worked as a table game supervisor. He excelled in his responsibilities here too, and was well-respected by his co-workers and clientele, currently employed for 29 years. Despite his career change, he maintained a love for cars and continued to spend a lot of time with Frank on his days off. Ironically, when David took ill, he was actually with Frank who attended to him with great compassion.
David was a longtime NASCAR fan. Rusty Wallace was his favorite driver, and this is where "Rusty" gained his nickname. He had a flair for life and had the remarkable trait of never bearing any animosity toward anyone. He had a contagious sense of humor and was able to use it in any situation-he was charming and always able to put a humorous spin on life. He was kind, loving, and gentle in all his relationships. He was a wonderful father and his love for his son was clear. David was a dedicated and responsible dad, finding the most important moments and pleasures with his son. Chad adored his dad and considered him his best friend. David was always helpful and considerate of his son's needs.
David was an engine afficionado, including cars, motorcycles, snowmobiles, really anything with a motor. He was always willing to assess an engine or motor part, always with excellence and precision. He had a passion for a Corvette! He could tell you the year, engine, and identify or any detail – his passion truly ran deep for that particular premier sport car. He was an avid bowler and dedicated his Friday nights to bowling with his son at Vista Lanes. Tuesday was set aside for league bowling with his co-workers. He very much enjoyed the competition yet always maintained an even temper. Christmas was always his favorite holiday to enjoy with loved ones. He was a bit of a "chef" and was noted for his homemade pizza, which was the best! Additionally, he had an enthusiasm for the NY Yankees and NY Giants teams. David was a believer in the Lord and always did his utmost to spread love and good deeds, "paying it forward" as often as possible.
David is survived by his adored son Chad David Fero and their beloved feline "Snickers." He is also survived by his former wife and Chad's mother, Christine. Additionally, he will be remembered by his siblings, John and Wendy Fero, Jill Dodge and her partner Jim Harrer, Brian and Mary Fero, and Paul Fero and Catherine DelFuso. He will live on in the hearts of his many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and several maternal uncles. Because of Rusty's personality, he acquired many friendships, but he held close his "additional brothers" Tom Hoban, Frank Ruscito, and Bob Swiecki.
David's family would like to extend a special "thank you" to the incredible first responders as well as the doctors and nurses at the Rome Memorial Hospital ED for their kindness and empathy.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 7, 2022, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. David's Celebration of Life and committal farewells will commence at 7:00 p.m.
To all of Rusty's friends, please share a story on the website so that Chad can learn more about his dad's life in his earlier years.
