David Sabelhaus Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Zoercher-Gillick Funeral Home on Feb. 12, 2025.
David Waverly Sabelhaus peacefully left this world on February 11, 2025, at Oakwood Health Campus in Tell City, IN.
Dave was born in Tell City on February 9, 1942, to Eugene and Gayle (Pannett) Sabelhaus, who preceded him in death in 1998. He was a 1960 graduate of Tell City High School, where he met and later married the love of his life, Kathi (Cassidy) Sabelhaus. Together they raised three children. Family was of the utmost importance to Dave, and he dedicated his entire life to the care and well-being of those he loved.
Dave was well known for his craftsmanship of fine furniture and spent 48 years working on samples and prototypes at William Tell Woodcrafters/Swiss Plywood, retiring in 2008. He designed and built unique pieces including organs, pianos, and grandfather clocks. After his retirement, he continued to work on small woodworking projects for family and friends.
He was a lifetime member of Moose Lodge 1424, serving one year as governor. Dave had a great love for all dogs (especially Sadie Sue), IU basketball and football, Lazy River, cross country road trips, and Sunday drives in the country. He was affectionately known as "Papaw" and was a good friend to all who knew him.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved brother, Wayne Sabelhaus.
Dave is survived by his wife of 62 years, Kathi Sabelhaus; his children, Jackie Fischer (Dale Harth), David Sabelhaus, Jr (Charlotte Rogier), and Kassi Rogers (Jeff Rogers). He is also survived by his five grandchildren, Lehn Fischer (Taylor), Ross Fischer (Taylor), Jace Fischer, Samuel Rogers (Katie), and Madalyn Rogers; his sister, Caroline Horton; two nieces and two nephews.
The family wishes to thank the wonderful people at Ascension Warrick Hospital, Oakwood Health Campus, and Heart to Heart Hospice, who provided such compassionate care during Dave's illness and at the time of his passing. Their kindness will not be forgotten.
Memorial donations can be made in Dave's memory to Rivers Edge Animal Shelter or Heart to Heart Hospice.
Visitation will be held at Zoercher-Gillick Funeral Home in Tell City, on Saturday, February 15, 2025, from 9:00am to 1:00pm. A Memorial service will begin at 1:00pm with burial to follow in Greenwood Cemetery in Tell City.
