David R. Sanders, Esq., known affectionately to friends and family as Dave, was a beacon of wisdom and a wellspring of kindness. Born on July 1, 1952, in Chambersburg, PA, son of Vernon and Georgia Sanders-deceased, Dave's life was a testament to the power of faith, the pursuit of knowledge, and the depth of human connection. He departed from this earthly realm on February 16, 2026, in Columbia, MD, after a courageous battle with respiratory distress and pneumonia. Dave's legacy is one of love, service, and an unwavering commitment to the law and social justice.

Dave's journey through life was marked by an insatiable thirst for knowledge and an unyielding dedication to his vocation. He earned degrees from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, B.A. and University of Baltimore School of Law, J.D., LL.M. (Taxation). His academic pursuits laid the foundation for a distinguished career as a lawyer and consultant, wherein he navigated the complexities of law with grace and integrity. Dave's professional contributions were vast, and his counsel was sought after for its clarity and wisdom.

Beyond his professional achievements, Dave was a man of profound faith. He lived his life as a testament to Christian values, embodying the virtues of compassion, generosity, and humility. His spirit was characterized by an unwavering optimism and a quiet strength which inspired those around him.

Dave's zest for life was evident in his diverse interests and hobbies. He was an avid traveler, exploring the corners of the globe with a sense of wonder and curiosity. Bike riding and hiking allowed him to commune with nature where he found peace and solace. A devoted reader, Dave was always in the midst of a new book, seeking to expand his understanding of the world and its many cultures. His passion for research was not limited to his professional life; he brought the same fervor to his planning of trips both domestically and internationally. Dave loved to explore new wineries or breweries in search of the perfect Bordeau or a west coast IPA which he then shared his findings with family and friends.

At the heart of Dave's world was his cherished family. He is survived by his beloved wife, Gail H. Sanders who was his partner in every sense, sharing in his adventures and supporting him in his endeavors. Together, they raised their son, Oliver Sanders, instilling in him the values of love and education. Dave's role as a husband and father was paramount, and he embraced it with a tenderness and devotion that will forever be remembered. Dave is also survived by his brother Tom Sanders (Carol Sanders-deceased), his sister-in-law, Shirley Bergman (Lawrence Bergman). He was loved and respected by many nieces and nephews, Jeremy Bergman (Jennifer Bergman), Neale Bergman (Ligia Paina Bergman), Madeline Miller (Brady Miller) along with seven great nieces and nephews.

Dave's life, while no longer present in the physical sense, continues to resonate in the hearts of those who knew him. His laughter, his counsel, and his unwavering positivity remain as guiding lights for us all.

In the quiet moments, when we feel the absence of his earthly presence, let us be comforted by the memories of his love, the echoes of his laughter, and the indelible impact he made on our lives. Dave has left an indelible mark on this world, and his story-a composition of hope and love-will continue to inspire generations to come.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, March 28 at 11 am at the Channing Memorial Church held at the Epiphany Lutheran Church in Ellicott City, MD (322 Sybert Dr, Ellicott City, MD 21043).

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dave's memory to the University of Baltimore School of Law Clinical Law Program, which places law students with causes that reflected his deep commitment to the law, social justice and Baltimore.
