David Sather Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Mountcastle Turch Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc. - Dale City on Mar. 12, 2026.
David "Mark" Sather, age 71, of Centreville, Virginia, passed away peacefully on March 10, 2026, at Inova Alexandria Hospital in Fairfax County, with his loving family by his side.

Mark was born on August 17, 1954, in Hanover, Pennsylvania, to Roger L. Sather and Patricia A. Pfoutz. At the young age of 17, he proudly enlisted in the United States Navy, serving from 1972 to 1975 with 2 years and 9 months at sea, earning a National Defense Service Medal and a Meritorious Unit Commendation for his dedication. After his military service, Mark became a skilled engineer, capable of fixing any household challenge, while building a life rooted in love, commitment, and family.

Mark was an avid D.C. sports fan, a lover of everything to do with Harley-Davidson motorcycles, and an antique collecting enthusiast. He was a true friend to neighbors and many others, always ready with a story, a "dad joke", or a helping hand. A devoted Catholic and family man above all, Mark placed his loved ones at the center of his world.

Preceded in death by his parents, Mark is survived by his devoted wife of 23 years, Pura; children, David (Heather), Matthew (Cristina), Marcelo, and Stephanie; grandchildren, Katelyn, Aedan, Grace, and Noah; brother Michael; nephews, Jason and Samuel; and his beloved pets, chocolate lab Rosie and bird Beau-all whom he loved dearly.

A viewing will be held on March 16, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Mountcastle Turch Funeral Home (4143 Dale Blvd, Dale City, VA 22193), followed by a Funeral Ceremony at 4:00 p.m. A Celebration of Life Reception will immediately follow the ceremony at Courtyard by Marriott Potomac Mills Woodbridge,14300 Crossing Pl, Woodbridge, VA 22192. All are welcome.

Military burial honors with full Navy rites will follow on March 18, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the National Memorial Cemetery at Quantico, where Mark will be laid to rest with the heroes he served alongside.

The family expresses their deep gratitude to all who have supported them throughout this journey, including family, friends, coworkers, caregivers, and medical staff. Mark will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. The family finds comfort in knowing Mark is now at peace in the loving presence of the Lord.
