David Lewis Schnitzer, 77, of Durham, NC, passed away peacefully, after living many years with the debilitating disease, Inclusive Body Myositis. A beloved husband, father, grandfather, businessman, teacher, and friend; David touched the lives of many with his wisdom, humor, and unwavering dedication to helping others. 

Born March 8,1948, in Poughkeepsie, New York. David grew up with his four siblings in Hudson, New York. He graduated from Rider University with a degree in Business Education. For over four decades he worked in retailing for many large retailing companies. He was the owner of Career Network Affiliates,Inc., a personnel agency specializing in retailing. After leaving retailing he used his educational background and began working with youth. For many years he was a Driver Education Instructor. Before retiring he worked for a local school district in New Jersey in transportation and home instruction. David was a proud veteran of the United States Army. He made lifelong friends serving and enjoyed swapping stories with other veterans. 

David is survived by his wife of 49 years, Gene, their children: Jeffrey and his wife Ashlee, Matthew, and two cherished grandchildren: Ryan and Logan. He is also remembered fondly by his brothers Harry, his wife Wendy, and Harold, his wife Janice, as well as many nieces, nephews, former friends and colleagues. 

David’s wish was to be cremated. 

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in David’s memory to The Myositis Association or American Diabetes Association.
