Walker's Funeral Home of HillsboroughDouglas Oliver Collie, our beloved Doug who was greatly loved and dear to our hearts, passed away at his home on August 11, 2025. Doug was born on May 9, 1958, in Martinsville, VA.
He was predeceased by his mother Ruby Edna Thornton and stepfather Thomas Kermit Collie and a brother Edward Leon Moxley.
Doug grew up in Danville and graduated from Tunstall High School in 1976. He attended Artistic Beauty College while also working at Winn Dixie. Doug worked at D Collie’s Hair Designs in downtown Hillsborough for 10 years before joining S&S Hair Studio at Boone Square in 1991.He worked with Sandra Sharpe, Ellen Hartley and later Susie Parsons until retiring this past January.
Doug was a popular stylist, friend, and co-worker in Hillsborough, and used his talents for interior designs to decorate many local homes.
Doug is survived by Linda Hinsen (Axton, VA). Janice Pearson (Jeff) Ringgold, VA. Nieces, Amber Robertson and Anna Hinsen. Nephews, David Hinsen, Cory Moxley and Brandon Moxley.
Special friends Tom Hawkins and Jerry Gerald.
A Celebration of Doug’s life will be held at the beautiful and historic Blackwood Farm Park 4215 NC-86 Chapel Hill 27514 on November 2, 2025 from 12-4pm. Blackwood Farm Park is on NC-86 in Orange County, situated between Hillsborough and Chapel Hill. You are encouraged to contact his sister by email [email protected] to RSVP but it is not required. Please come and help us Celebrate if you can.
