Wendelyn Stine Embree

Wendelyn Stine Embree ("Wendy"), 73, of Hillsborough, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on August 7 at her home in Hillsborough, surrounded by loved ones.

Born on November 16, 1951, in Syracuse, New York, to Richard (Dick) and Nancy Stine, Wendy grew up in Wilmington, Delaware, and Martinsville, Virginia, in a close-knit family with one younger sister, Donna.

Wendy attended Virginia Tech, where she met her future husband of 50 years, Larry Embree. After graduating in 1973, she started her career in interior design before transitioning to several years of employment counseling, followed by over a decade as a Registered Nurse. Her career (like her family life) was dedicated to helping others achieve their goals.

In 1975, Wendy and Larry were married in New Cumberland, Pennsylvania, before moving to Orange, Texas, where they devotedly raised two sons, Stephen and Mark. The family relocated to North Carolina in 1994, where they all live today.

Friends and family remember Wendy as a devoted wife, daughter, and sister; a loving mother; a dedicated grandmother; an exceptional listener; a generous caregiver; and a caring nurse. Wendy was fiercely dedicated to the well-being of others, helping care for her aging parents before their passing, many grandchildren throughout their early years, and several rescued cats.

Wendy is survived by her husband, Larry Embree; her sons, Stephen (Genevieve) Embree and Mark (Kennedy) Embree; six grandchildren, Guenther, Russell, Juniper, Marlowe, Alden, and Salem; and her sister, Donna Young (Claude). She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Nancy Stine.

A celebration of life will be held at 10:00 a.m. ET on August 22 at The Colonial Inn, with a reception to follow at 140 Hayes Street in Hillsborough, NC.
