David Wayne Shaw, of Copan, Oklahoma, passed to his eternal resting place at the age of 67, on the morning of Tuesday, November 4th.
David was born in Mansfield, Missouri to Carson and Truman Shaw on January 30th, 1958. He was their youngest son, and the seventh of eight children.
Mansfield is where David grew up and attended school. David graduated from Mansfield High in 1976, and from there he built and held many lifelong friendships. Shortly after graduation he worked as a welder for the Mansfield Steel Inc., and later was employed by the shoe factory in Mountain Grove. There David met his then wife Patricia. David and Patricia married and moved to
Bartlesville, Oklahoma in 1981, where they both were employed with United Linen and met their best friends and later to be neighbors, the Murphree's. David was later employed with the City of Bartlesville, where he there too held some great friendships and later retired from. David's final homestead was made in 1986 in the small town of Copan, Oklahoma, where he and Patricia raised their two children, Chasity and Garret.
After retirement, David followed his passion for traveling and adventure. David wasn't one for the normal tourist stops, but one who desired to catch as much scenic road as the day would allow him. Many of his trips were made on a whim. He may be winding through the mountains one day, or following the coastline the next. David wasn't much for idle time. With his newfound time with retirement, he took full advantage of hitting the road and taking in as much as he could. He loved sharing his latest adventure with his family and friends through his videos and photos. "Traveling with Dave," as he called it. David visited 48 states total, with only Alaska and Hawaii left to go. His favorite hobby and pastime was fishing. If you knew David, you knew he was already somewhere fishing, fixing to go fishing, or wishing he was fishing. It brought him a lot of joy and peace. He frequented Cassville's Roaring River to trout fish, but he was honestly just as content with fishing any water hole. As long as David was fishing, he was happy. In his younger days, before retirement, David had a love for cars and restoring them. He became quite the body man and painter in those days. He also had a knack for carpentry, and woodworking as well, and could build anything his imaginative mind could come up with; a skill he surely picked up as a young boy helping his father who was a carpenter by trade. Many years back, David put those skills to use and built his grandchildren the most beautiful cabin playhouse on his property in Copan. If you have been to David's home and seen the cabin, you could surely appreciate the workmanship and detail he put into it. It turned out amazing and he was so proud of it, as he should have been. David was such a talented and skilled man in so many things. He was a very strong willed, and minded man. Never one to give up. He is, and will be, truly missed by so many.
David is survived by two brothers, Harold Shaw of Oklahoma, and Vergal Shaw of Missouri; three sisters, Sharon Hoskins of Nevada, Lena Garr of Idaho and Glenda Privett of California; two children, Chasity Phelan and spouse Wade Phelan of Oklahoma, and Garret Shaw of Oklahoma; five grandchildren, Makenzie Freeman and spouse Kyle Freeman of Oklahoma, Chloe Phelan of Oklahoma, Kasen Shaw of Oklahoma, Landen Shaw of Oklahoma and Dakota Wilson of Oklahoma; three great-grandchildren, Millie Freeman, Ivory Freeman and Jameson Phelan; nephew, Jamian Borders and spouse Tiffany of Missouri; niece, Karen Estrada of Oklahoma; and many cousins.
