David Sherman Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 2, 2025.
David Ashley Sherman, husband, father, problem-solver, volunteer, and friend to all, died on Sep 17 at age 87. He is survived by his wife Diana Creamer, children Laurie Sherman (Billie Swain), Douglas (Mindi) Sherman, and Stephen Sherman (Amy Horowitz), 5 grandchildren, a greatgrandchild and 2 nephews.

Born in Boston at the start of WWII, he grew up in Wakefield with sister Carol and parents S. Morton and Viola. Dave attended UMass and Western New England College and emerged an engineer who could create, fix, build and imagine anything. He worked in central CT and spent years living in Seattle and working in Alaska. He co-created a management consulting firm where he worked until retirement.

Dave always had a project going ... whether a plexiglass birdseed biohazard cabinet for the interdiction of squirrels, or orchestrating a pipeline through the frozen tundra, Dave tackled each problem with energy and determination.

His skills made him a sought-after volunteer, and for that, was honored by the Mark Twain House. In addition, he tutored at-risk students in the Hartford Public Schools, drove for Foodshare, sang in the Beethoven choir and volunteered for South Windsor Cultural Arts.

David was instrumental in founding the Manchester Unitarian Universalist Society in 1969 and served multiple terms as president.

He enjoyed softball, tennis, leading family and friends on hiking trips in the White Mountains and singing in the church choir.

A memorial service will be held Oct 25 at 11am at the Unitarian Universalist Meetinghouse, 153 W Vernon St, Manchester, CT, with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations in his name to the Twain House.
