David Smith Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Lauer Family Funeral Home Affordable Cremation Solutions Jackson - Jackson on Mar. 9, 2026.
David Wayne Smith, age 70, passed away on March 7, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on February 3, 1956, in Lansing, Michigan, to his parents, Frederick and Roseanne Smith.

David is survived by his loving mother, Roseanne Smith; his devoted wife, Karen Smith; his children, Nicole McMurray, Matthew Smith, Anthony Smith, Elizabeth Smith, Michael Smith, and Grace Smith; grandchildren, Christian Blanchard and Colton Smith; great-grandchildren, Alyssa Blanchard, Hailey Blanchard, and Sophia Blanchard; brothers, Norman (Terri) Smith and Bill (Cindi) Smith; nieces, Brittany Smith England and Erin (Antonio) Lampani; and his beloved dogs, Odie and Teddy.

He was preceded in death by his father, Frederick Smith; his daughters, Venus Smith and Michelle Mann; his brother, Frederick Smith Jr.; and his grandparents, George and Rose LaCoe and William and Reah Smith

After proudly serving his country in the United States Navy, David went on to work as a Journeyman Electrician, dedicating 16 years to General Motors and 32 years to Ford before his retirement. He was known as a true jack-of-all-trades and had an incredible ability to fix nearly anything at least 75% of the way, often extending the life of items well beyond what most thought possible.

He had a deep love for music and was an avid audiophile who collected thousands of vinyl records. David also enjoyed playing the harmonica and flute. In his free time, he could often be found fishing, camping, visiting yard sales, stargazing, or adding to his many collections, including coins and other unique treasures.

Above all, David was known for his kind heart and generosity. He was always willing to lend a hand to those in need and even built a wheelchair ramp onto his own home so that family and friends could easily visit.

David will be remembered for his resourcefulness, his love of music and collecting, and most importantly, the love he shared with his family and friends. His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

A celebration of life will be held in the future with plans still to be determined.
