David R. Sommerfeld, 61, of Alpena passed away Monday, September 15, 2025, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

David was born on June 17, 1964, in Benton Harbor to Roy and Darlene (Hopp) Sommerfeld. On August 13, 1988, he married Rebecca McLennan. He worked at LaFarge/Holcim for the past 38 years. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and enjoyed all things outdoors, including hunting and fishing.

Surviving are his wife, Becky; sons, Matthew (Kimmy) Sommerfeld, Chase Sommerfeld; grandchildren, Gwendolyn and Winslow Sommerfeld; mother, Darlene Sommerfeld; siblings, Annette (Sam) Timm, Dan Sommerfeld, 11 nieces, nephews; 11 great nieces and nephews; 5 brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Rollie (Diane) McLennan, Julie Maggio, Richard (Melissa) McLennan, Denise (Rick) Forrester, and Rexall (Jackie) McLennan.

Dave was preceded in death by his father, Roy Sommerfeld; in-laws, Larry and Marzell McLennan, brother-in-law, Mark Maggio; niece, Kami Marie.

Memorial visitation will take place on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at the Bannan Funeral Home from 12 p.m. until the time of the memorial service at 3 p.m. with Rev. James Erickson officiating.
