David Marvin Misel, 71, peacefully passed away at his home on September 17, 2025.

He was born on August 19, 1954, to the late Lionel and Dolores (Kujawa) Misel. David married his loving wife, JoAnn Hardy, on August 22, 1975, and together they joyfully celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.

He honorably served in the United States Marines from 1972 to 1974. David earned his Bachelor of Social Work from Madonna University and went on to earn his Master of Social Work from Michigan State University. Known far and wide as one of the hardest workers, Dave approached every task with unwavering dedication, determination, and a strong sense of responsibility. Whether working long hours at Fletcher Paper or returning to school to advance his education, he never shied away from challenges. His commitment to bettering himself and serving others was evident in his proud role as a supervisor with Northeast Michigan Community Mental Health Services, where he made a lasting impact on many lives.

Dave was not only an exceptional worker but also a great husband, father, son, grandfather, brother, and friend. To his wife JoAnn, he was a steadfast partner, sharing a lifetime of love, support, and joy. As a father, he was nurturing and caring, always putting his children's needs first and guiding them with wisdom and kindness. His sisters, Debra and Mary, remember him as a devoted brother who was always there in times of need. And to his many friends, including his beloved dog Ozzy, Dave was loyal and dependable, a true friend through every season of life.

He is survived by his wise and devoted wife JoAnn; three children: Michelle (Shawn) French of Weidman, MI, Dan Misel of Alpena, MI, and Marie Misel of Alpena, MI; sisters Debra (Gary) Ross and Mary Michaels; a proud grandfather to Maddie and Kort French, Michael and Rebecca Misel, and Chase Misel; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

His legacy of hard work, love, and dedication to family and community will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.

Visitation will take place at the Bannan Funeral Home on Friday, September 19, 2025, from 2-8 p.m. with military honors at 5 p.m. and a parish prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at St. Anne Church of All Saints Parish from 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. with Rev. Emmanuel Finbarr officiating.

Dave was a great great asset to Nemcmh. Actually he was one of my favorite and most inspirational ppl there. I was in numerous groups he facilitated.. Great with everyone. Listened and interacted with care and compassion. His unbiased and non judgemental self truly was extremely helpful. He was a rare gem of a man!I'm so grateful I was able to have had the opportunity those many many years ago to have been able to learn that I'm much more than a diagnosis. May y'all have peace n comfort knowing that Dave was an inspiration to I'd say hundreds of ppl with a mental health diagnosis. Rip... Dave!
