David L. Sparklin age 75, of
Wilmington, Delaware went to be with his heavenly Father on Saturday, February 1, 2025 at Accentcare (formerly Season's) Hospice in CCAC Wilmington Hospital surrounded by his family.
Born in Chester, PA and raised in Aston, PA, David was the son of Margaret Jewell and Willis Sparklin. A Class of 1967 graduate of Sun Valley High School, he had studied business at Brandywine Jr. College ( now Penn State Univ- Brandywine).
David was a VietNam veteran of the United States Army where he served as a Sergeant with the HHC 1st Bn 2nd Inf 1st Inf Div of the 5th Army based out of Fort Riley Kansas. While serving he studied Control and Accounting as well as Armored Vehicles, graduating the respective programs in the Class of 1968. David was awarded the National Defense Service Medal with two overseas bars, the Viet Nam Service Medal, the VietNam Campaign Medal w 60 DVC which is acknowledgement of a minimum of 181 days in "action" theater. He was always given multiple commendations for being a "Sharpshooter" marksman. David was a member of the Claymont Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Prior to retirement, he was the General Manager of Giordano Brothers Food Distribution Company. David was a devout Christian and loved spending time with his family. He had a passion for all types of music, but especially Roy Orbison.
David enjoyed watching and supporting his beloved Philadelphia Phillies baseball team and the Philadelphia Eagles Football. He enjoyed sailing on his Catalina boat, "The Island & Me" in the Chesapeake Bay, Maryland as well canoeing in the Brandywine River. David played frisbee and entered tournaments with his brother. Over the years, he took several hiking trips including treks through the New England states particularly Maine.
David is survived by his two daughters, Bren Sparklin-Myers, wife of Art Myers, and Melissa Sparklin; his grandchildren, Preston Border, Tripp Border, Lily May Rieley, Matthew Rieley, Casey Rieley, Rob, husband of Hannah Border, Sophie Border, Madison Border and Robert Border, Jr., Zoey Myers and Micah Myers; his brother, Alan, husband of Patricia Sparklin; his sister, Patty Sparklin Habel; and his nephew Earl Lofland.
Family, neighbors, friends are welcome to a visitation on Monday, February 17, 2025 from 11:00 am to 12:00 Noon at Williams Funeral Home and Burial Services, located at 2100 Rodman Road,
Wilmington, De 19805. Funeral services will begin at 12:00 Noon followed by a procession to Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, Delaware 19701 where military honors and burial rites will be afforded in the cemetery chapel promptly at 2:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made in David's honor to his grandson's Tripp Border's missionary school program at YWAM. The checks may be made payable to Bren Sparklin-Myers, in care of Williams Funeral Home and Burials Services, 2100 Rodman Road,
