David Stanton Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Burbage Funeral Home - Berlin on Feb. 2, 2026.
David Andrew Stanton, age 74, of Ocean City, Maryland, passed away on January 28, 2026.

Born in Wadsworth, Ohio, David was defined by his devotion-to family, work, community, and all those fortunate enough to know him.

He lived his life in service to others-selfless to a fault, hardworking, generous, and deeply beloved. He served as a mentor both professionally and within his community, graciously giving his time, sage advice, and quiet reassurance to many. David was especially involved with the Boy Scouts of America, earning his Eagle Scout Award as a youth under the guidance of his father, who served as his Scoutmaster. He later volunteered in leadership roles with Troop 993 and continued that service for many years after his son earned his own Eagle Scout Award. A true Scout, David consistently put others before himself, earning him deep admiration and respect from colleagues, friends, and family alike.

David built a distinguished legal career rooted in diligence and perseverance. He earned his law degree from Delaware Law School while working full time at Lenape Forged Products Corporation in Human Resources and raising a young family. He went on to serve as an attorney in labor relations with the United States Postal Service and later, in "retirement," between rounds of golf and cycling, worked as an arbitrator, where his fairness, intellect, and steady judgment were widely trusted.

A lifelong learner, David earned a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Grove City College, an MBA from Youngstown State University, a Juris Doctor, and an LL.M. from Georgetown University-accomplishments that reflected his curiosity, discipline, and keen intellect.

Above all else, David was a family man. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ellen Mauriello Stanton; his father, Russell Andrew Stanton; his mother, Maxine Sherman Cox; and his brother, James Sherman Stanton.

He is survived by his children, Treva Marie Stanton; Anne Cathleen Bryan (husband Kenneth); and James Andrew Stanton (wife Julie); and by his cherished grandchildren, Joshua, Kenneth ("Luke"), Colson, Parker, and Evelyn, each of whom brought him immense pride and joy. He is also survived by his sister, Susan Raymond, and many nieces and nephews whom he adored.

David leaves behind a legacy of kindness, respect, quiet strength, and unwavering dedication to those he loved.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a contribution to the Ellen Stanton Memorial Fund at St. Martin's in the Field Episcopal School in Severna Park, Maryland (https://stmartinsmd.org/giving/ellen-stanton-memorial-fund/). This initiative supports field trips for elementary school students, reflecting David's steadfast support of his wife's work and his love of travel, learning, and personal growth.
