David J. Stickney, passed away at his residence on Sunday, July 6, 2025, after a valiant battle against cancer. David was born On May 30, 1954, to Joe and Jean Stickney in Midland, Texas. His childhood was spent playing baseball, bike riding, cub scouts and fishing on Colorado City Lake with his family and friends.

David attended Midland High School and graduated in 1972. He then went on to attend Texas Tech University and Louisiana State University with an interest in architecture . He returned to Midland to begin working as a Commercial estimator for Harris Acoustics, a commercial drywall/acoustical contractor.

On June 7, 1980 he married Sydney Lindley of Midland, Texas. They lived in Midland and in 1984, their first son, John David, was born. In the mid 80’s while with Harris Acoustics of Midland, David, J.E. Mason and Mike Mason started Concho Valley Acoustics in San Angelo, Texas. In the late 80’s, David bought J.E. and Mike out and became the sole owner of CVA . The family moved to San Angelo, Texas and David built CVA into a successful acoustical ceiling /commercial drywall business. In 1994, their second son, Taylor, was born.

David mentored and taught his employees the value of hard work and the importance of being responsible, dependable and knowledgeable in your field. He left an indelible mark upon those who worked for him as well as those he worked with. Throughout David’s life, he had a deep love for the outdoors from fishing, to hunting, to simply enjoying the wonders of nature. He and Sydney purchased property near Mertzon, Texas where David remodeled, designed and built their ranch houses/barn. David spent his free moments at the ranch tending to the wildlife, land and replenishing his mind and soul. He deeply loved “the ranch”. David also felt a sense of honor during the years that he served on the annual “Hunt for Heroes” committee which took place in San Angelo involving veterans hunting on surrounding ranches. He enjoyed his camaraderie with those who served on the committee. A simple, “laid back” man, David leaves a legacy of mentorship, integrity and honesty in the construction industry as well as in the lives of many individuals.

“Dad”, “Pawpaw”, “Uncle”, “Boss”, “Friend”, “Husband”, “Davey Joe”….. Many names to many people, who were very special to him but more importantly individuals who have been enriched by knowing him. He was “Dad” to many and will be truly missed. “My flesh and my heart may fail me, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.” Psalm 73:26

David is survived by his wife, Sydney and their two dogs Louie and Bailey: son, Taylor Stickney of San Angelo, Texas and son, John David Stickney and grandchildren, Tenley and Graham Stickney of San Angelo, Texas.
