David Alan Stovel, born on October 25, 1951, in Highland Park, MI, to Mary Westlake Stovel and Samuel Stovel, was raised in Inkster, MI, and graduated from Cherry Hill High School in 1969. He went on to build a long and respected career as a proud member of IBEW Local 58, where he remained active for over 50 years.
Dave enjoyed the simple, steady joys of life—fishing, relaxing with a game on and a drink in hand, and listening to classic rock. The Doors were among his favorites, and their music was the soundtrack to many of his best memories.
Dave passed away peacefully at his home in Howell, MI, on February 1, 2026, with his wife Julie by his side.
He leaves behind his loving wife, Julie Stovel of Howell, MI; his stepfather Charles Cunningham of Brooklyn, MI; and his sister Susan Terrio of Mesa, AZ. He is also survived by his children: Jennifer and Todd Williams of Northville, MI; Bryan Stovel of Livonia, MI; Lauren Stovel of Chicago, IL; Jordan Stovel of Howell, MI; and stepson Justin Leitch of Brighton, MI. Dave was a proud grandfather to Jessy, Alexa, Oliver, Jayden, Evelyn, and Bryan Jr., and a great grandfather to Mylah. He is further survived by many loving in laws, nieces, and nephews, including his brother in law William David Leitch Jr. (“Billy”), sister in law Laurie Foldenauer, and father in law William David Leitch Sr.
Dave will be remembered and deeply missed by all who knew him.
