Frankfort – David Lee Strohmeier, age 93, passed away on August 16, 2025. Services will be held at Harrod Brothers Funeral Home on Friday, August 22, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Sherman Warfield officiating. Burial will follow at Frankfort Cemetery. Visitation will be at Harrod Brothers Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 21, 2025. Dave moved to his homeplace on Kentucky River when 6 years old and spent the remaining 87 years of his life there. As a senior in high school, his Peaks Mill High School basketball team went to the finals of the regional tournament. He then went on to play basketball on scholarship at Cumberland College. His life was centered on the river. As a teenager, swam the Kentucky River 8 times, and with his cousin, built and used a 6-foot waterski jump. After college, he farmed full time and was a leader of several local farm-service organizations. Dave was named Outstanding Young Farmer of Franklin Co in late 1950's. Over the years, he experimented with greenhouse mums and field tomatoes. Dave was proud that he was the first farmer in the county to reach a measured 100 bushels of corn yield and that he was recognized as a Franklin County Pioneer Farmer in mid-2010's. Dave had several jobs in Frankfort during this life including being a State Disability Examiner for Social Security, State Ag Development Specialist with Ky Dept of Commerce, and Head of Black Lung Benefits Division. He also started a sheltered workshop and group home for the handicapped with Bluegrass Comprehensive Care. Dave opened the Still Waters Campground and Marina in the mid-1980's. Dave's endless dedication to his family was shown through a lifetime care of his handicapped son, Eric, and was responsible for care of wife Beth who suffered with Parkinson's for many years. He was preceded in death by wife Beth; parents, Ed & Esther Strohmeier; brother, Ed; sister, Virginia Tincher, and grandson, Ben. He is survived by his son, Kim D. Strohmeier (Francie) of Fredericksburg, Virginia, Kevin Lewis Strohmeier (Luna) of Rineyville, Kentucky; and Eric Scott Strohmeier of Richmond; grandchildren Lauren Kwon (Jake); Ted Strohmeier (Laura), and Hannah Salkovitz (Jake); and by four great-grandchildren. He was also blessed with several nieces and nephews. Serving as pallbearers will be Lauren Kwon, Ted Strohmeier, Hannah Salkovitz, Jake Salkovitz, Steve Tincher, and John Tincher. Honorary pallbearers will be Donnie White, Tom Darnaby, Roy Young, Marsha Wiechman, James Alimonos, and Mike Napier. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the Nathaniel House, PO Box 2078, Richmond, Kentucky 40476.
