It is with deep sadness and heartfelt sorrow that we announce the passing of Dave Sunkes, a beloved husband, father, son, brother, and friend, who left us on September 7, 2024. Dave's enormous presence filled the room with contagious energy and spirit that made everyone smile, laugh, and feel empowered. His warmth and spirit will forever be cherished.
Dave is survived by his devoted wife, Carrie, and their three sons, Jack, Tucker, and Charles. He is also lovingly remembered by his parents David and Lora, and his siblings Courtney, Carla (Robert), and Michael, mother in-law and father in-law Wayne and Jane, and several nieces and nephews.
A man of many passions, Dave's love for the holidays and music was a cherished tradition shared with those he loved most. Family was at the heart of Dave's life. He found immense joy in cooking and gathering with loved ones, creating memorable moments around the bonfire or watching football on Sundays with good food, family, and friends. Dave was a fierce protector of those he loved, always ensuring that those around him felt supported and valued. His ability to bring people together and his unwavering support for those he loved are truly inspirational.
He was an outstanding athlete whose achievements spoke volumes; his remarkable athletic career included being a three-sport star, earning accolades as an All-Star First Team honors in both football and baseball and continued his success at Springfield College. Dave instilled his athletic skills and love of sports throughout his coaching career at all levels. Any athlete who has crossed paths with Dave knows his infamous speech about "turning the page," showing grit, resiliency and good sportsmanship both on and off the field. In 2018, he was inducted into the Catholic High Hall of Fame, a testament to his exceptional skills and dedication. Dave also made a significant impact in the Ballston Spa athletics program, earning the NYSPHSAA Athletic Director of the Year award in 2018 for his outstanding contributions. Beyond his commitment to athletics, was his dedication to promoting outstanding citizens within the community, as exemplified by the Changemakers Award he received from Wellspring for his involvement in Coaching Boys Into Men. Dave served as a profound inspiration to his athletes, always leading by example and encouraging them to reach their full potential.
Relatives and friends are invited to calling hours on Thursday, September 12 from 3pm to 6pm at Armer Funeral Home, Inc., 39 East High Street, Ballston Spa. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 9:30am Friday, September 13 at St. Mary's Church, Milton Avenue, Ballston Spa. Burial will follow in Ballston Spa Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Dave Sunkes Turn the Page Scholarship. Checks may be made payable to the Ballston Spa Central School District, and mailed to BSCSD, 220 Ballston Avenue, Ballston Spa, NY 12020, Attention: Deb Carminati, with the scholarship title noted in the memo.
Dave's legacy of love, passion, and commitment will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be profoundly missed but fondly remembered as a beacon of light and laughter in all our lives and in the Ballston Spa community.

I am so sorry for your loss. I remember Dave from working with Lora at the Grand Union in Waterford. David was such a great kid. He always was so positive with a great laugh and sense of humor.. Rest in peace my friend.
