Heaven's bands needed a guitar player, and David Taylor, age 72, of Toledo, answered that call. David passed away in the peace and comfort of his daughter's home in Marshalltown on Saturday, March 25th, while in family care and Iowa River Hospice.
A family led celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, April 15th, from 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at the home of his daughter, Abby, at 1110 Summit Street in Marshalltown. For condolences, please visit www.mitchellfh.com. The Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for cremation arrangements. Ph. 641-844-1234.
Born on August 10th, 1950, in Millsboro, Delaware, he was the son of Wilbur Alan and June Elizabeth (Whaley) Taylor. He grew up in the area working alongside his sister, Lola Carol, on Mr. Quillen's farm moving hay bales and accomplished what ever job was needed to be done. The family moved to Maryland before moving to Marshalltown. David graduated from the Marshalltown High School and soon enlisted in the United States Marines Corps to serve our country honorably during Viet Nam.
On Valentine's Day of 1969, he was united in marriage to Lynda Diggins. They were blessed with a daughter, Abby. On March 4th, 1988, he was married to Julie Jordan in Marshalltown and with that marriage, he gained a daughter, Monica, who was raised as his own.
David was a homebuilder along with his father and later a family development counselor for MICA. He played for local bands including Morgan Stone and Night Wings. He enjoyed building things, reading, painting, playing guitar and piano and building things as well as time with his pets- Tabby, Cat and Gibby.
Left to cherish his memory are Julie, his loving wife; daughters- Abby Taylor (Jeremy Beaderstadt) of Marshalltown and Monica Speaks of Grinnell; grandchildren- Antonio, Elena, Justin, Lili, Hayden, Jacob, Dravon and Brandon; sister Lola Carol Taylor Slingluff and numerous friends.
In death, he has rejoined his parents. He also knows the mystery of his sister, Dawn Marlene Taylor, who disappeared from Carroll, Iowa, in May of 2011 (still an Iowa cold case after she didn't show up for work).
