David Lee Thomas, affectionately known as Dave, passed away on July 29, 2024, at MedStar Georgetown Hospital, at the age of 72. Dave was born to Evelyn Ruth Meyers and Frederick Lee Thomas on October 18, 1951, in Meyersdale, PA. For the last fifty years of his life, he called Calvert County, MD, his home.
Dave was a graduate of Meyersdale Area High School, class of 1969, and went on to pursue his passion for education at the McKeesport branch of Penn State University and Indiana University of PA, where he earned his degree in 1974. Dave applied for and obtained a teaching position at Calvert County Middle School, where he taught science and math for thirty years.
Even though Dave remained unmarried, he lived a fulfilling life surrounded by the love of family and friends. His sisters, Diane (Thomas) Pratt and Donna (Thomas) Noonan, remember him as an extremely kind and generous man who enjoyed golfing and watching football and old Westerns. Dave was also a dedicated member of the Calvert County Lions Club, frequently participating in the club's community service projects.
Dave is preceded in death by his mother, Evelyn, his father, Frederick, and nephew, Joshua Pratt. He is survived by his niece, Alexandra Pratt; his nephew, Eric Noonan, and wife, Stephanie; two great nieces, Tille and Ada; and his sisters, Diane and Donna, and their husbands, Carl and Nick.
Services to honor Dave's life will be held on Friday, August 23, 2024, at 2:00 pm, at Rausch Funeral Home, 4405 Broomes Island Road, Port Republic, MD. Visitation will begin at 1:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to The Leukemia And Lymphoma Society (https://www.lls.org/ways-to-give), or to the Lions Club International Foundation (https://www.lionsclubs.org/en/donate).

Dave was one of my first friends in Calvert County. He was a quiet, kind person who genuinely loved Calvert County. I think Calvert County reminded him of home in Pennsylvania.
