David Mercer Thomas, age 64 of
Brooks, Georgia, passed away on Monday, September 22, 2025, at Piedmont Newnan Hospital in Newnan, Georgia.
Born on November 9, 1960, in Fayette County, Georgia, David's roots were firmly planted in Georgia, where he spent his entire life. David was a master carpenter by trade. Beyond his professional life, David was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting but had a profound love for coon hunting, blue tick hounds, fishing, and activities that allowed him to immerse himself in the beauty of nature. These moments of tranquility in the wilderness were a source of joy and peace for David.
However, the role that brought David the most joy was being "POP" to his grandchildren. His eyes would light up at the sight of Tanner, Tyler, Wyatt, Shepherd, and Silas. Each moment spent with them was a treasure, and his love for them was boundless.
David's life was also marked by the love he shared with his wife of 45 years, Debra Gable Thomas, who sadly preceded him in death earlier this month. Their partnership was a testament to enduring love and mutual support. He is also preceded in death by his sisters, Sandra and Tammy Thomas.
He also leaves behind a legacy through his daughter, Lindsey Thomas (Fiancé, Brian Bailey), and his son, Travis Thomas (Taylor), who will continue to honor his memories through their lives. Also surviving are his parents, Cecil and Betty Thomas, his nephews and cousins.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, September 27, 2025, from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm at Conner-Westbury Funeral Home in
Griffin, Georgia, to share memories and celebrate David's life. A graveside service will take place the following day, Sunday, September 28, 2025, at 2:00 pm at Brooks Memorial Gardens, where Pastor Kenneth Whitlock will offer words of comfort and remembrance.
