David Toth Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Campbell-Ennis-Klotzbach Funeral Home on Jan. 20, 2026.
David Louis Toth, at the age of 81 years old, entered into eternal rest in the quiet early hours of January 18, 2026, during a lull between two snowstorms. He was surrounded by his wife of 48 years, Patricia (née Hogga), and his treasured daughters Susie and Julie.

The youngest of four children, Dave was born in Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, on July 29, 1944, to Louis and Margaret (née Lebesko) Toth. He was predeceased by his parents, sister Dolores Kish, and brothers Louis and Richard.

Growing up in Phoenixville, Dave enjoyed playing Little League and Babe Ruth baseball, and would later coach for Phoenixville Little League as a young adult. As a young man, Dave developed a passion for weightlifting, and a lifelong interest in American history, especially military history-an interest that began with playing with tin soldiers in his backyard-which brought countless discussions and lessons of history to his daughters around the dinner table.

He was a man who was committed to environmental stewardship, often taking his daughters with him water monitoring or to count hawks at Hawk Mountain. If Dave could have had his wish, he would have been a "mountain man." He thoroughly enjoyed trips to the American and Canadian Rockies, Mount St. Helens and Mount Rainier, and the French Alps. When he could not visit the mountains, he could often be found hiking in Valley Forge National Park. More than anything, though, David loved being at home with his family.

David graduated from Saint Ann School, Phoenixville, in 1958, attended Saint Pius X High School from 1958-1960, and attended and graduated from Phoenixville High School in 1962. Following high school, he graduated from Temple Technical College with a degree in Drafting in 1964. After working for a number of years as a draftsman, he returned to school at Villanova University earning his Bachelor in Civil Engineering in 1985. In 1994, he obtained a Master of Science in Civil Engineering from Drexel University.

After obtaining his undergraduate degree, David worked with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and then spent the majority of his career with the Philadelphia-office of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

He was the first in his family to obtain a college degree and stressed the importance of education and bettering yourself to his daughters. Dave was a first-generation American and would always speak with pride of his Hungarian heritage.

To his wife, he leaves the "lights of his life"--their two daughters-and over 48 years of memories. To his daughter Julie, he leaves his love of nature, animals and classic TV. His daughter Susie will always carry his childlike wonder for the natural world, and his passion for American democracy and history with her.

Dave's family would like to thank the physicians, nurses, aides, and staff at the University of Pennsylvania Abramson Cancer Center and the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania's Inpatient Hospice Program for the exemplary and selfless care David received in his last week.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in David's name to Natural Lands (natlands.org).

Family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Life on Saturday, January 31, 2026 at Campbell-Ennis-Klotzbach Funeral Home, 610 South Main Street, Phoenixville, PA 19460. Visitation is from 9:30-11:30 am. Celebration of Life is from 11:30 am-12:30 pm with burial immediately following.
