Lt. Colonel (retired) David Oneal Treadwell Sr, 82, went to his heavenly home on August 31, 2022. He
was born on February 20, 1940. David grew up in Conyers, Georgia where he graduated from Rockdale
County High School in 1958. After high school he attended West Point Military Academy where he
received his Mechanical Engineering degree and later a Master's Degree in Public Administration from
Auburn University. David served in the Army for 20 years before retiring in 1982. He served two tours to
Vietnam and was the recipient of many medals and awards. Medals Include: National Defense Service
Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Silver Star, Army Service Ribbon,
Overseas Service Ribbon, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Gold Bar, Meritorious Service Medal
(1st Oak Leaf Cluster), Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm (Unit), 4 Overseas Service Bars,
Parachutist Badge, Ranger Tab, Soldier's Medal, Bronze Star Medal with "V" Device, Pathfinder Badge,
Army Commendation Medal (1st Oak Leaf Cluster), Bronze Star Medal (3d Oak Leaf Cluster), Air Medal
(5th Award), Expert Infantryman Badge, Combat Infantryman Badge. Military Education: Airborne
Course 1962, Infantry Officer Basic Course 1962, Ranger Course 1963, Pathfinder Course 1963, Infantry
Officer Advanced Course 1970, Air Command & Staff College 1972. After retiring from the military David
worked in the fabrication industry and ended his work career serving the City of Moody where he was
instrumental in building the first Miracle League Field in the state of Alabama.
David is preceded in death by his father Albert Treadwell and his mother Mamie Cox Treadwell, his
brother Frank Treadwell and sister Evelyn La Pointe. David is survived by his spouse Faye Anglin
Treadwell; his children Tamra Treadwell Huffman (Carl), Chip Treadwell (Leah) and Nicole Treadwell
Halbrooks (Guy); grandchildren Summer Van Kirk, Jackson Treadwell, Taygen Halbrooks, Fenton
Treadwell, Joel Huffman (Kayla) and Jessica Huffman Bailey (Daniel); mother-in-law Nell Anglin; several
nieces and nephews and four great-grandchildren.
A military honors service will be held at Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo at 1:15 PM Friday
September 16, 2022.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to American Cancer Society or
American Heart Association.
