David Patrick Vicars, age 71, of
Dayton, Texas, passed away on Monday April 21, 2025, surrounded by family and loved ones.
David was born on October 13, 1953, in Victoria, Texas, to JP and Claudette Vicars. A longtime resident of Dayton, he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Joyce Vicars; his son, Baron Vicars; and his parents, JP and Claudette.
David worked for over 40 years as an iron worker, rigger, and heavy equipment operator. He was highly skilled in his trade and took immense pride in a job well done. His life was marked by a deep work ethic, a talent for fixing just about anything, and a commitment to helping others.
He was a lifelong tinkerer, happiest when he was taking something apart or putting it back together better than before. David loved solving problems, puzzles, and riddles, and he had a particular knack for torturing those who could not solve them as quickly as he could. His clever sense of humor and storytelling made him as much fun to be around as he was reliable when something needed fixing.
David had a love for his fruit trees, never passed up a good garage sale, and valued time with his family above all.
A faithful member of First Baptist Church of Dayton since 1979, David served in many roles throughout the years and was always eager to share his faith. He never missed an opportunity to tell someone about his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ or how he chose to live with one of his favorite verses Joshua 24:15 "Choose this day whom you will serve... But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord."
David is survived by his son Brian Vicars and wife Yolanda of Shreveport, LA; grandchildren Clayton, Austin, Lisa, Joe, David, Kane, and Noelle; his brother Phil Vicars and wife Dale; sister Beverly Inman and husband Tim; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of other loving relatives and friends.
Honoring the family by serving as pallbearers will be Clayton Vicars, Austin Vicars, Jason Inman, Jeremy Vicars, Russell Hare, and Russell Thompson
