Obituary published on Legacy.com by Martin & Hightower Funeral Home - Carrollton on Dec. 23, 2025.
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of David Rex Waid, who departed this life on December 22, 2025, at the age of 68. Born on May 31, 1957, in
Charles City, Iowa, David was the son of the late Frank Alden Waid and Marian Barger Waid. Throughout his life, David was known for his quiet strength, steady presence, and unwavering love for those closest to him.
Family was David's greatest blessing and his proudest joy. He was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Charlene Gregory Waid, and a loving father who cherished time spent with his children. He leaves behind his daughter and son-in-law, Dusty and Lawrence Adair, and his son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Mellisa Waid, each of whom held a special place in his heart.
David found immense happiness in being a grandfather, delighting in the lives of his grandchildren: Shakeil Adair, Aleesa Oxendine, Sean Adair, Jayden Joyner, Damian Joyner, Tristan Adair, and Cheyanne Moore. He was also blessed with eight great-grandchildren, whose lives brought him continued joy and pride. In addition to his immediate family, David is survived by his sister, Donna Rae Waid, and his brother and sister-in-law, Danny and Karen Waid, along with many extended family members and friends who will remember him with fondness and respect.
David was a faithful member of Midway Church, where he found community and spiritual strength. Outside of his devotion to family and faith, he enjoyed life's simple pleasures. He was an avid boater and golfer, finding peace on the water and joy on the course. David was also a proud member of the Fairfield Golf Club, where he enjoyed both the game and the friendships it brought.
A service to honor and celebrate David's life will be held on Friday, December 26, 2025, at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Martin & Hightower Funeral Home with Dr. Kevin Rivers officiating. Interment to follow at West Georgia Memorial Park with the following gentlemen serving as pallbearers: Robert Waid, David Nowak, Curtis Stone, Joshua Williams, Darren Callahan, Robby Dayton, Ryan Lawler, and Adam Wilkins. Mike Gantt will serve as an honorary pallbearer. The family will receive friends on Friday from 11:00 AM until 12:30 PM at the funeral home. The family will have a luncheon at the Care Center from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM.
David's legacy lives on through the love he shared, the family he cherished, and the many lives he touched along the way.
