AUGUSTA – David A. Walter, 82, of Augusta, Maine, died Tuesday, November 11th, 2025, at Maine Medical Center in Portland surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Portland, Maine, on Augusta 26, 1943, the son of Bill and Dorris (Dubay) Walter.
Following his graduation from Cony High School in 1962, he served six years in the Air National Guard. Following his years of service to his country, he began a three-decade career at International Paper in Jay. After his retirement, he got his CDL license and enjoyed driving across the county. Still not ready to retire, he worked for O'Connor Auto Park for many years. He loved to drive.
David married the love of his life, Linda, in 1985 and blended their families. They celebrated their 40th anniversary this year.
He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing, boating, and snowmobiling. The Rockwood family camp on Moosehead Lake was David's second home for his entire life. He also loved spending summers in Weld with his wife, children, and friends. In the last several years, Linda and David enjoyed their time together traveling to various destinations.
David was an active member of his community, participating in the Elks Clubs, the Calumet Club, Amvets, and VFW.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff and Maine Medical Center for their care and compassion.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Tasha Raymond and husband Jamie, Michael Ouellette and wife Katie, Suzanne Kempton and husband Buddy, Roni McCracken and husband Ian. His grandchildren, Nicholas Raymond and Alexis McCormick, Emily Kennedy, Kristen Ouellette, and Rylee Saunders, Alanna Ross and Sierra Kempton, and Madison and Camden Phillips. Great grandchildren, Charles Kennedy and Arianna McCormick. His brother-in-law Homer Ambrose and wife Louise, sister-in-law Cheryl Smith, niece Susan Walton, as well as many close cousins and friends.
David is predeceased by his parents, sister, Andrea Walton, and nephews Erik and Max Walton as well as many beloved poodles, Mimi, Heidi, Gretchen.
In June of 2025, David was chosen to travel to Washington DC as an Honor Flight Maine Veteran. He described this experience as an extreme honor and the trip of a lifetime. A private graveside service will be held at 11am on November 20th at St. Sebastian's Cemetery in Madison
