David Williams Obituary

Published by Legacy on May 23, 2023.
David James Williams III died Saturday, May 20, 2023, in Marietta, GA (known familiarly as "Jim"). He is preceded by his wife of 63 years, Carolyn Leary Williams of Augusta, GA. Both Jim and Carolyn will be interred together at Westover Memorial Park in Augusta, GA on Friday, June 16 at 3 p.m.
Originally a native South Carolinian, Jim spent his childhood in Newberry and Florence, S.C. However, in his adult years he raised his family in Marietta, GA, then spent retirement in Jacksonville, FL.
He served honorably in two branches of the U.S. military: Army from 1954-1957 and Air Force from 1958-1962. After his time in the service, he completed Master's and Educational Specialist degrees at the University of Georgia, Athens, making him a lifelong UGA Dawgs fan. He went on to serve 31 years in leadership roles for the Cobb County School District.
He is survived by daughter Christi Williams of Acworth, GA, son Mike Williams and daughter-in-law Pam Williams of Seattle, WA. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Cameron, Bella, Rees, and Quinn Williams.
Jim will always be remembered as an avid gardener, creative artist, aficionado of history, and a world traveler, the last a true passion shared by both him and Carolyn. To his friends and family he will also be cherished as a dear man and a generous and loving father and grandfather.
In lieu of flowers please donate, in his name, to the hospice Tranquility at Kennesaw Mountain in Marietta, Georgia, where he was comforted and cared for in his final days.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.nationalcremation.com/location/atlanta for the Williams III family.
