James Thomas Wilson, Jr. entered into rest peacefully the morning of July 19th with his loving family by his side. Jim leaves behind a legacy of family, friends and many great memories of a life well lived.
Jim was born on April 20, 1942, in Augusta, GA. He was a lifetime Augustan. Jim graduated from Richmond Academy then attended the University of Georgia where he earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting and a juris doctor in law. He was a proud member of the Kappa Alpha Order. Jim was a lifelong avid dawg fan with a record of 15 SEC championships, 3 National Championships, and most importantly was 42-33 against the Florida Gators.
Jim was admitted to the Georgia State Bar in 1966 and practiced law and accounting until 2015. Jim was a member of the Augusta Bar Association, the American Bar Association, former Deacon at the Reid Memorial Presbyterian Church, past Chairman of the Richmond County Development Authority, member of the Augusta Aviation Authority, Past President of the Augusta Assembly, Past President of the Augusta Heritage Club, former member of the Augusta Kiwanis Club, Member of the Augusta Country Club, former Board Member of Augusta Heart Association, and former Board Member of the Augusta Eye Bank. He was a veteran of the Air National Guard. Jim was an avid fisherman and hunter and also actively involved in political campaigns, notably chairing several for Frank Albert. But most importantly he was a loving husband, father and grandfather known as “Papa”.
Jim was preceded in death by his father James Thomas Wilson, his mother Elizabeth Printup Wilson, and identical twin brother Paschal Tillman Wilson. He is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years Susan Fowler Wilson, his son James Thomas Wilson, III (Tripp) and Anna Salley Wilson; his daughter Leah Wilson Moore and Alan Bondurant Moore, Jr (Bo), his grandchildren, Salley Wilson, Thomas Wilson, Tripp Moore and Lillie Moore. His sister Becky Guberman (Sydney); his sister Rosie Kay (Ben); nieces, Elizabeth Tindall, Dore Brooks, Elizabeth Yeager and nephew Benjamin Kay.
Services will be held on Wednesday, July 23rd at 11:00 AM, at Reid Memorial Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the Fellowship Hall at Reid Memorial Presbyterian Church. Honorary pallbearers are Dudley Bowen, Edo Douglass, Zack Everitt, North Goodwin, Harold Jones, Benji Mason, and Haley Roberts.
