Massena: It is with heartfelt sadness that the family of Dr. David A. Zysik, shares with you his sudden passing on Monday, February 24, 2025. David was 67 years old. Family and friends are welcome to call at the Phillips Memorial Home located at 64 Andrews Street in Massena, NY, on Sunday, March 2, 2025, from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm. A Memorial Mass will be held Monday, March 3, 2025, in Waddington, NY at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Father Garry Giroux officiating at 11:00 am.
David was born to the late Marjorie Jean (McNeilly) and Edmund T. Zysik, Sr. on July 25, 1957, in Amsterdam, New York. He attended Massena High School and graduated from Kent Prep School in 1976. He attended Hartwick College and received a BA in Biology. David graduated from McGill Dental School in 1984. He earned a Master's Degree in Orthodontics from The University at Buffalo in 1986. He married Debralee Anne Deshaies at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Louisville, NY. David was proud to join his father's orthodontic practice in Massena in 1986. He opened an orthodontic practice in Cornwall, Ontario at the same time. He later felt very blessed to share a dental office with his son Jonathan.
David was an avid outdoorsman year-round, enjoying snow skiing, snowmobiling, ice skating, fishing and water skiing. He cherished making memories engaging in these activities with Debbie and their children, Jonathan and Aleesha. He later he found happiness in doing the same with his four grandchildren. David also found great joy in running, participating in 5k's to even a 15k road race with his children and his grandchildren. Throughout his life, David was an avid boater and Montreal Canadiens hockey fan with an affinity for unique cars and classic rock & roll. He was also a master of the air guitar and so proud to have played hockey for Massena Central High School. David and Debbie enjoyed the opportunity to travel to Australia, Hawaii, Africa, Sint Maarten and Key West. His love for family, sense of humor, and his laugh were infectious. He was instrumental in making certain that his entire extended family could share time together each summer in Long Lake.
David is survived by his greatest blessings in life: his wife Debralee Zysik of Louisville, NY, his son Dr. Jonathan and wife Elizabeth Zysik of Waddington, NY, with their four children: Annika, Jamison, Soren and Elin Zysik, and his daughter Dr. Aleesha M. Zysik now residing in Fort Myers, FL. He is also survived by; Edmund Jr. and Kathy Zysik of Massena, NY, Karen and Tom Freidhof of Lewiston, NY, Jeffrey Zysik of Deadwood, SD, Michael and Julie Zysik of Perrysburg, OH, Daniel and Josephine Deshaies of Chelmsford, MA, Diane and William Toth of Fairport, NY, and Denise and Robert Holmes of Ada, MI along with several nieces and nephews.
David was a dedicated member, and communicant of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Waddington, NY.
