With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of Dawn Louise (Polzin) Werth, beloved wife, daughter, sister, and friend, on Friday, September 19, 2025 after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
Born on December 23, 1964 in Antigo, WI to the late Robert and Nina (Twieg) Polzin. Dawn was deaf from birth and found a lifelong home in the deaf community. She built cherished friendships through Grant Elementary in Wausau, Lions Camp in Rosholt, the Wisconsin School for the Deaf in Delavan, and later, Gallaudet University. She made Madison her home and devoted 33 years of service to CapTel. Dawn was known for her warm smile and homemade baked treats.
In December 2014, Dawn married Gregory Werth—on their shared 50th birthday. The two first met as children at Lions Camp, reconnected online years later, and loved to tell the story of their matching birthdays (Dawn fondly noted that she was eight hours older). Answering a call to serve, Dawn became a deaconess in the Lutheran Church, hoping to share God’s love within the deaf community.
Dawn loved her cats, Sophia and Stella, travelling, camping, skiing, doing puzzles, being near the waters, and cheering for the Packers! She and Gregory were proud to complete the Wisconsin Wine Tour together.
Dawn is survived by her loving husband Gregory; her mother Nina Polzin; her brother Glen (Donna) Polzin; her sisters Noreen (Ron) Schreiber, Joye (Ken) Bedard, and Sarah (David) Polzin; nieces, nephews, great-nephews, one great-niece, and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her father Robert Polzin, in-laws Vernon and Marietta (Niederstadt) Werth.
Friends and family will gather from 12-3:00 pm on Monday, October 13, 2025 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 300 Broadway Drive, Sun Prairie, WI 53590 with a memorial service to follow at 3:00 pm.
