Dealie Wayne Couey, age 93, of Milton, Florida passed away peacefully April 3, 2025.
Wayne Couey was born in Greenville Alabama and had two sisters and one brother. The family later moved to Mobile, Alabama. He graduated from Murphy High school in Alabama.
In 1958 the family moved again to Milton Florida where they started Couey's fish camp on the beautiful Yellow River. Dad certainly made the most of nature where he fished and hunted. He was known for the many sturgeons he caught at the mouth of the river. Next stop for Dad was the US Army where he served two years in Korea. After his completion in the service, he worked at the Federal penitentiary in Atlanta. Along the way there were jobs at many service stations. Dad received a call from a friend and was told to apply for a job at the Escambia plant later named Air Products. Dad worked for 35 years before retiring. Dad was a member of the West Milton Church of Christ. Also, during this time Dad and Mom started Jerry's Tropical's pet shop which they operated for 26 years.
In retirement dad loved to sing and spent his time singing for residents of retirement homes. He also continued his love of fishing in the local waters including the Gulf of America. Dad was an avid woodworker and did many wonderful projects.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Christine Sasser Couey; his parents, Herbert and Estelle Couey; sisters, Leatrice Joy Brown and Frances Scrimpshire.
He is survived by his son, Jerry Couey and wife, Carolyn Couey; two grandchildren, Megan and Jeremy Couey; and brother, Pete Pierce.
A Funeral Service will be held on Friday April 11, 2025, at Lewis Funeral Chapel Milton, FL 32570, with visitation from 12:00-1:00pm and service at 1:00pm. Interment will immediately follow at Serenity Gardens.
