James Paul Miller, Jr.
It is with great sadness that we share the passing of James Paul Miller, Jr., who left this world peacefully in the early morning hours of September 30, 2025, after a recent struggle with health challenges.
Born and raised in Philadelphia, James went on to live an extraordinary and adventurous life, defined by service, travel, and curiosity. Most of his career was spent in the United States Navy, where he dedicated himself to Cryptology, Aviation Physiology and Water Survival. His military service took him around the world to live in Nevada, Tennessee, California, Guam, Maryland, Spain, Florida, North Carolina, and Missouri. He earned multiple post-graduate degrees in psychology and criminology, which fueled his love of learning and writing. He even authored and self-published two detective novels, "The Devil's Footprint" and "Face Down in Fishtown".
James loved cars, karaoke, travel, and international exploration, particularly throughout Europe. Even after retirement, James continued to embrace adventure and discovery. He was so eager to experience other cultures that he even learned a bit of Romanian before a trip there. At home, he was never without a loyal cat by his side, and he delighted in humor, storytelling, and a spirited sense of adventure that will be deeply missed.
He was preceded in death by his father, James Paul Miller, Sr. and his mother Doris Lacey.
James is survived by his wife, Mary Miller; daughters Jessica Klodnicki and Arlene Green; brother Glenn Miller; close friend and former spouse Linda Rayner; and his beloved cat Chloe.
The family will miss his wicked sense of humor, his restless curiosity, and his adventurous spirit.
A committal service will be held on Monday, October 20, 2025, at 9:30 a.m. at Barrancas National Cemetery, 1 Cemetery Road, Pensacola, Florida 32583. The procession will meet no later than 9:00 a.m. at Olive Baptist Church - Warrington Campus, 103 West Winthrop Avenue, Pensacola, Florida 32507.
