Coach Hurley Nall Manning, 87, a resident of Milton, Florida, was reunited with his wife, Shirley, in heaven on Tuesday, September 30, 2025.

Coach Manning was born on March 30, 1938, in Allentown, Florida and was the last of three children born to Lewis and Ethel Manning. He was a graduate of Milton High School where he played all 4 years of football and received achievements of All-Conference Guard 1953, All-Conference Halfback 1954-1955, All State 1955 and Northwest Florida Conference Champions 1952 and 1955. After high school, he attended college at Troy State University where he received a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education degree in 1960 and a Master of Science in Secondary Education in 1967. During his football career at Troy, he was the leading rusher in 1959.

After college, Hurley briefly coached at Thomasville High School and Gainesville High School before leading the Milton Panthers as head coach for 21 years. During his tenure at MHS, he led the Panthers to 9 District Championships, 7 Regional Championships, 4 Sectional Championships, State Runner Up 1972, and 2-time State Champions in 1978 and 1979. He also acquired numerous Coach of the Year accolades during his coaching tenure.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Manning; his parents, Lewis and Ethel Manning; his brothers, Newton Manning and Thames Manning (Mae); and his granddaughter, Jordan Peterson.

He is survived by his daughters, Lynette (David) Roever and Heather (Sean) Couper; his grandchildren, Haley and McKenzie Peterson, Liam and Fiona Couper, and Ursula Roever; and his sister-in-law, Peggy Manning.

The family will receive family and friends from 5:30-8pm, October 3, 2025, at Pine Terrace Baptist Church. The funeral services will be held on Sunday, October 5, 2025, at 2pm at Milton High School Haywood Hannah Stadium at Hurley Manning Field with Pastor Nathan Brown officiating. Interment will follow in Serenity Gardens Cemetery.

Donations may be made to the MHS Quarterback Club in his honor.
