Dean A. Barnhisel
Dean A. Barnhisel, 87, of Cygnet, passed away peacefully Friday, August 15, 2025, surrounded by his loving family on his 66th wedding anniversary. He was born July 23, 1938, in Cygnet, to the late Fred and Helen (Loy) Barnhisel. Dean married Barbara S. Funk August 15, 1959, at Hoytville United Methodist Church, and she preceded him in passing February 26, 2016.
Surviving Dean are his sons, Scott (Dawn) Barnhisel of Custar, Michael (Becky) Barnhisel, Tim (Dianna) Barnhisel both of Cygnet; daughter, Jill Barnhisel of Cygnet; grandchildren, Josh (Stephanie) Barnhisel, Jordan (Kara) Barnhisel, Jared James, Alex (Jessica) James, Cory (Jeanette) Barnhisel, Chelsea (Austin) Cook, Elizabeth (Keith) Vehrs, Jackie (Keith) Doyle, Phillip Palmer, Danielle (Tom) Martinez, Taylor Barnhisel, Trey Barnhisel; 21 great-grandchildren; special friend, Barb Kiel; brother, Ralph (Donna) Barnhisel; sister, Marjorie Reynolds; sister-in-law, Helen George. He was preceded in death by his parents; loving wife, Barb; great-grandson, Knox Bryant Vehrs; and brothers-in-law, Tom Reynolds and Carl George.
Dean was a 1956 graduate of Bloomdale High School and then served his Country proudly in the United States Coast Guard. He was a lifelong farmer, retired from ODOT, served as Bloom Township Trustee for many years, and was also a member of Boy Scouts of America Troop 337 in Bloomdale that traveled to National Jamboree. Over the years, he was very active in his church; he was a member of the former Bloom Center Church of God, and more recently attended Basic Truth Church in Cygnet. Dean had a love for fishing, camping, woodworking, and traveling. Florida and Out West were among his favorite destinations. His greatest love in life, though, was spending time with his family.
Friends will be received from 2-8 p.m. Tuesday, August 19, 2025, at Barndt Funeral Home in Wayne. Additional visitation will be on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, from 10-11 a.m. at Basic Truth Church in Cygnet, where a Celebration of Life Service will begin at 11 a.m.Wednesday with Pastor Jim Baney officiating. Burial will be at Weaver Cemetery in Bloom Township with military honors performed by Wood County AMVETS Honor Detail. Immediately following a bereavement luncheon will be at North Baltimore American Legion.
