Dean Almon Douglass

With deeply grieving hearts we announce the loss of a devoted husband, father and Uncle; Dean Almon Douglass. He passed surrounded by his wife and closest family members on the 24 of March 2025, at Central Vermont Hospital, Berlin, Vt. There will be no services.

Born on 4 April 1938 in De Goesbriand Hospital, Burlington, Vt. He was the fifth generation Douglass’ in Vermont and the tenth child of Llyle Almon Douglass and Nina Ellen Boyce Douglass.

Dean grew up on the old Cassius Gibbs Farm in Upper Stowe Hollow and attended Stowe High School, graduating in 1957. He married his high school sweetheart, Dale Sandra Davis, on 22 April 1960.

They had three children; Angel Douglass Drown, Eric Dean Douglass and Llyle Almon Douglass, but helped raise nephews; David Keneth Burt, the twins Dennis and Donald Farnham. His nephew Tom Douglass was also a fixture in the family home along with Lisa Weaver Mandigo.

Dean was a hard working well accomplished man. He held three jobs when he started his family but only two after the the third child was on the way. Being home with his family was the best part of his life.

He found his passion in construction, built high end homes in Notch Brook and by the 70s Dean had made a good name for himself. His last construction site was the “Commodores Inn” in Stowe. Site work began in 1985, and when it was completed he retired to be Head Operations Manager in Maintenance and Grounds. He cared for the facility with pride and conscientious respect for the guests and staff. There wasn’t anything he couldn’t take care of and he was well liked by all.

Dean wasn’t all work and no play. He put his family first; camping, boating, fishing and hunting with his boys. He had several personal pleasures as well. His love for antique Corvairs top on the list. He owned a 61’ Gold Corvair, a ‘64 Blue Corvair, and his most recent cars were two 1966 Corvairs. One a red convertible that he and his nephew Tom Douglass restored together. Later he bought a light teal green hard top his son Llyle painted for him.

Dean was a Member of Lamoille County Cruisers and love showing his cars in various shows and parades. He was a member of The Gold Panning Association and went on digs to North Carolina, Dalonaga Georgia, New Hampshire and Vermont. While working at the Commodores he built a three foot sailboat that he raced in the Regattas held at the Inn. Also, we have to add that he enjoyed raising his BobWhite Quail as a hobby..

Dean is survived by his wife of 65 wonderful years. A daughter, Angel Douglass and husband David Drown with three boys two girls; Eric Douglass and wife Martha have three girls and Llyle Douglass and wife Lyn have four girls. Many grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

He will be deeply missed by us all.
