Dean transitioned to Heaven in early morning hours of Wednesday, September 4, 2024 at Select Specialty Acute Long Term Care Hospital in Daytona, FL. His soul went to his heavenly home with God; his body was returned to MN.
Dean was born in Deaconess Hospital, Minneapolis on June 28, 1956 to his parents: Betty and Reuben Grue. He received Christian Baptism at Bethel Evangelical Lutheran Church. Dean's parents pre-deceased him. He had 3 brothers; Daryl and Darwin and preceded in death by Dana.
Dean attended schools in South Minneapolis; enlisted in the US Marine Corps at age 17; served in Cambodia and Viet Nam; in 1981, met his lifelong wife and best friend; attended and received culinary school degree; worked in food service industry the rest of his working life in Minnesota, Florida and North Dakota.
Dean loved working with food and feeding everyone whether they were hungry or not. His food of passion to eat was Chinese cuisine.
Growing up in Minnesota, it was hockey, softball, hunting, fishing and mischief; retirement years were spent in St. Augustine and Elkton, FL where he loved to golf, throw darts with the guys, give his girls "Allie and Fiona" rides on his golf cart and spending time with his family. He loved all his family and friends in Minnesota, Florida and North Dakota.

Dean is my cousin, along with Darrel, Dana and Darwin. My dad, Marvin Grue and Dean´s dad, Reuben (nickname Shorty) were brothers and best friends. As young kids Darrel, Dana and Dean spent many times together playing with myself and brother Glen at our home in Bloomington, MN. Fun times. Ended too soon with the sudden death of my Uncle Reuben of a heart attack. Dean´s dad was my favorite uncle - was a lot of fun, big hearted and had a hearty chuckle. I´m thinking Dean probably received some of those qualities. Reuben was a Bronze Star recipient from duty in the Korean War. So Dean and his dad both served their country! That thrilled me, and would have his dad.
My condolences to wife Carol and entire family. Sorry for his early passing. I can see he had a very full life! I have done quite a bit of genealogy of our Grue family from Norway, should anyone want to know grand, great grand and great great grandparents names. Most resided in the Fergus Falls and surrounding towns.
Contact me if any family member wants ancestry info. ([email protected])
Hugs for you all. So very sorry! Nancy Ann (Grue) Eidem, Minneapolis (Savage).
