Dean Weeks Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Bates Cooper Sloan Funeral Home - Mount Pleasant on Mar. 31, 2026.
Dean Day Weeks, known affectionately as "Papaw" to his family, passed away at the age of 73 at his home in Mount Pleasant, Texas, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on June 21, 1952, in Hope, Arkansas, Dean was the youngest of four brothers - Karl-Logan, Joe, and Wayne - born to parents Karl and Annie Weeks. He was raised on a farm in Emmet, Arkansas, and loved riding his horse Elnora. Later Dean moved to Marshall, Texas, as a young adult.

Dean enlisted and served in the Army National Guard as a medic before beginning a career as a firefighter and EMT for the City of Marshall, Texas. Later, Dean became a machinist at Lone Star Steel, before finding his calling as a mechanic and electrician at Luminant Mining, where he worked for 30 years and retired in 2014.

In 1972, Dean met the love of his life, Kathy Lynne Reynolds. They were married in 1974 and spent more than five decades building a life together. Dean and Kathy were blessed with two sons: Kevin and Scott Weeks, and two daughters by marriage, Ericia and Kimberly.

He was a proud grandfather to Joey, Lillian, and Charlotte, and a great-grandfather to Brynleigh.

Dean was a true family man - hardworking, dependable, and incredibly handy. He could fix almost anything, a skill he proudly passed on to his sons. He loved spending time in his shop, where he became well-known for his fine woodworking, especially his beautifully hand-crafted wooden bowls. Dean also enjoyed smoking meats, and his hot links and famous peanut brittle were always anticipated at family gatherings and will be greatly missed.

He had a deep love for the outdoors - whether at the beach, camping, four-wheeling, or riding his Harley. Dean cherished the annual Weeks' Family Reunions and was a devoted dog lover, especially of dachshunds. His loyal companion, Sally Girl, stayed by his side until the very end.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Chambers Home Health & Hospice (201 W 20th St #102, Mt Pleasant, TX 75455) or in the form of potted plants that can be planted around the family home in his memory.

Dean will be deeply missed by his wife Kathy, his sons and their families, his grandchildren, great-granddaughter, his brother Joe and wife Judy, his mother-in-law Dorothy, extended family, friends, and all who knew him.

The family extends a special and warm thank you to friends Tommy and Sandy Hooper, and the women of Chambers who cared for Dean during his end of life; especially Raven, Amanda, Renea, and Deanna, your compassion will not be forgotten.

Funeral services will be held at Bates-Cooper Sloan Funeral Home, 2805 S Jefferson Ave, Mt. Pleasant, TX 75455, on Thursday, April 2nd, at 10:30 A.M.
