Debbie L. Cornwall, departed from this world on October 18, 2023 in Rahway, NJ. Born on August 2, 1960, in St. John's, Antigua, Debbie brought immense joy and love into the lives of all who knew her. She was the cherished daughter of Norriston Alfonso Cornwall (deceased) and Clarice Cornwall.
As a graduate of Saint Peter's College, Debbie touched the lives of many through her work and volunteer activities. She worked for Lehman Brothers Brokerage, Chase-Chemical Bank, and Sansone Auto Mall. She helped countless students and teachers as a paraprofessional teacher at Franklin Elementary School, performed office duties at Second Presbyterian Church, and was involved with the Girl Scouts, the Boys & Girls Club, the Rahway Branch of the YMCA, and the Rahway Food For Friends program. She loved crafting and designing Home Interiors. Her passion for helping others shined brightly through her involvement with the after-school program Achieve To Excel, and the fitness center New York Sports Club. In 2007, she founded Redirect Youth Ministry, and was able to share her love and wisdom by mentoring many. Later, in addition to serving as an Elder for Safe Haven Christian Fellowship, Debbie also served as an Elder and dedicated bible study teacher at Worship Experience International Church.
Debbie was a devoted mother to her children Deshawn Cornwall, Lahnisha Thomas, and Mykelti Thomas, and a proud grandmother to Sanai Johnson. She was also a loving sister to Herman Pompey (Yvette Pompey), Melrose Cornwall, Tyrone Cornwall (Delfina Cornwall), Frances-Junie Samuel (Vincent Samuel), Patsy Henry (Vincent Henry), Avonella Donawa, Francine Cornwall, Sandra E'Bas (Casmore E'Bas), Dawn Rowley-Augustine (Reece Augustine), and a caring aunt to numerous nieces and nephews, including: Jamie Howe, Albert Henry, Melrose Cornwall Jr., Kevin Cornwall, Pernell Cornwall, Ernest Grant, Priest Pompey, Quamie Mathias, Herman Mathias, James Browne Sr., Taurin Benta Sr., Bernard Benta Jr., Casmore E'Bas II, Omari Abraham. Natoya Guishard (Keno Guishard), Krisma Pinney (Willis Pinney II), CasSaundra E'Bas, Wendy Cornwall-Jarvis (Alfred Jarvis), Faye Cornwall, Erica Cornwall, Abenie Benta, Charlene Grant, Malaika Donawa, Maxine Browne-Rivera, Tammy Browne-Monestime (Tommie Monestime), Sherry Browne, Althea James Henry (Allison Henry Sr.), Arkanar James, Simbi Coward (Gregory Coward), Ahimsa Browne, Shawambi Browne, Delecia Henry, Kianna Cornwall, and her cherished pets Tapunchi (Foul), Diamond, Nick, Prince, and Valor.
Debbie is predeceased by Norriston Alfonso Cornwall (Father), Bernard Browne (Brother), Emmaline Pompey (Sister), Valerine Cornwall (Sister) James Jody Cornwall (Nephew), Ricky Browne (Nephew), and Shamell Benta (Nephew).
Debbie's kindness and warmth endeared her to a wide circle of special friends, including Dago Hodge, Ex-Husband Lyndon Thomas, David Rodriguez, Anthony Williams, Calvin Jones, Candace Ashe, Brother Ed Steed, Dana and Bill Marsh, LaDonna Damon, Kym Adams, Leslie Ficke, Tracie Wiebush, Lyra Williams, Anthony Williams, Marie Estrada, and Pastor An Sean and Shawn Wallace. Her impact was immeasurable; leaving a legacy of love and friendship that will be remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
Debbie's life was a testament to her resilience, faith, and unwavering love for her family and friends. As we mourn her passing, let us also celebrate the beautiful life she lived and the love she shared. May her memory continue to inspire us to live with compassion, kindness, and love for one another.
