Debbie Goldstein was born in Louisville, Kentucky, on August 16, 1955, and left us on February 2, 2022. She loved her children, family, and close friends. They were her world. She did everything she could to make her kids happy. She loved them with every ounce of her soul.

As a small child, Debbie loved animals, rescuing everything from ducks, to a horse, to a flying squirrel. She was a fierce animal advocate. She loved to sing, dance, and perform – from high school until her first child, Rachel, was born. She wrote poetry and lived for family vacations.

Debbie is survived by her husband of 34 years, Alan; her daughters, Rachel and Emily; her mother, Martha Meyer; and two brothers, Michael and Steve. She was preceded in death by her father, Herb Meyer, former police chief and mayor in Jeffersontown. Her mother worked in the school cafeteria and was a lovely homemaker.

All who knew Debbie were better for it. She could brighten anyone's day and never forgot to send someone a card for their birthday, for any holiday, or just to say she was thinking of them. She had an infectious laugh and could win anyone over with her charm. The world was brighter with her in it.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to any of these organizations: The Louisville Zoo, Falls of the Ohio Foundation, and Polar Bears International.

Debbie Goldstein was interred at Cave Hill Cemetery during a private service on February 9, 2022. A celebration of her life is scheduled for May 2022.

I knew Debbie the entire 9 years I worked at UofL. She was such a bright light and I LOVED when she came to visit. She never ever stopped smiling and literally had the best attitude despite all the challenges she faced. Seeing this tonight has broken my heart. I will always remember her and her funny poems and awesome writings. She is missed

I feel blessed to have known Debbie and all of the Goldstein family. I admire her strength and desire to meet each day even when they were difficult. I send my sincere thoughts and prayers to all of those who loved her and have her legacy to comfort them. She was very special.
