Deborah A. Muccigrosso

Deborah A. Muccigrosso, 72 of Carmel, passed away Monday, March 31, 2025, at her home with her husband and daughter by her side. Deborah was born July 6, 1952 in Bath, NY to the late James H. and Joyce M. Schwingel. She grew up on a dairy farm in Cohocton, NY and spent summers giving tours at Widmer’s Wine Cellars. She received her bachelor’s degree and master’s degree from State University of New York-Fredonia, with an emphasis in organic and organometallic catalytic chemistry. Deborah met her husband James in a chemistry class at SUNY Fredonia.

Deborah was a chemist. She began her career at Allied Chemical in Morristown, NJ. She later taught at Salem State College in Salem, MA. Most recently, Deborah was a private chemistry and math tutor for high school students.

Deborah was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, and a 50+ year member of the American Chemical Society. She enjoyed camping, hiking, gardening, sewing, and spending time with her granddaughters.

Family and friends are invited to gather on Sunday, April 6 from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Flanner Buchanan-Carmel. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 am Monday, April 7 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church.

Deborah is survived by her husband of 47 years, Jim; daughter, Kristin L. (husband, Adam) Kline; granddaughters, Grace and Madeline Kline, and a third granddaughter due in August; sister, Ruth Didas; sister-in-law Ann (William) Colpitts, brothers-in-law Thomas (April) Muccigrosso and Mark (Iris) Muccigrosso, and many nieces and nephews whom she adored.
